good question...i don't know that. but I do know SF became the North American headquarters in 2005, and it was moved from LAX at that time. LA was the previous headquarters before CX packed their bags and moved to SF.

I think CX's first NA route is HKG-YVR-SFO, launched in May 1983, but the YVR-SFO leg was dropped in 1990. LAX was launched in July 1990 (around the same time YVR-SFO was dropped) and JFK (via YVR) in July 1996. SFO then came back in Dec. 1998.

Depends on which flight OP is ex-JFK. I believe service is provided only during evening departures.

Yes - of course when the pre-flight dining is open then you will be given access. Otherwise there is nothing to eat there eg before 5pm

Does anyone know if the security checkpoint across from the F/J check-in counters at JFK is open prior to the departure of CX 831 and, if so, what time it opens?

If you're talking about the premium security checkpoint, then that is open only at night with the CX 889 flight via YVR along with the evening BA departures especially the BA1 all Business Class to London-City. The checkpoint should be closed already as far as I am aware for the 845 non-stop to HKG.

Perhaps things have changed - but i distinctly recall having used that checkpoint (right next to the CX F counters) back in 2012, when on 841. Will be on that flight again in a few days' time and see how things are, now.

It is hit or miss whether the premium security channel by the BA F check-in area is open or not in the morning. Perhaps now that BA have two daylight flights to London departing in the morning, they might have it open. BA F check-in staff have escorted me to the front of regular security before when the premium lane was closed, not sure if CX staff will do that (you can always ask). It normally opens about 4pm for the evening flights.

CX 831 leaves at 2:50 PM, so most pax will be arriving after Noon, which is well after the morning BA flights have left and well before the evening rush of BA flights.

So, it sounds like the premium checkpoint is not open when CX 831 check-in is open.

the Priority screening was open early in the morning before CX 841 (reached the airport early), but think it gets shut down after the morning BA flights depart.
