It's stupid. Technically you could waive the fee for yourself by pretending that you aren't going onto the trip anymore, and cancel/terminate the award immediately. Then rebook/redeem all over again onto the dates you want to change to. This should work for both upgrades and full redemptions, but you need flexibility of course and won't work if it's urgent (i.e. you need it within a week).

So I have confirmed seats on the day I wanted to change my issued tickets to. I will hold on to these confirmed seats until I make the change to make sure there are still award seats for me to change into (as I release them by cancelling the confirmed-but-not-issued booking). :p
But of course I still have to pay the change fee of US$25/sector or AM1,000. |
