I personally prefer row 1 on the 744 especially if you are travelling with someone.

I see the appeal of row 1 in that there's no one in front of you, but if traveling solo it's closer than I'd like to the other row 1 passenger. If with my wife, I definitely like row 1 the best.

I had an empty 744 F cabin on HKG-SFO a couple weeks ago so I was able to try out all of the seats I haven't selected in the past. I felt that 1A/1K to be a little bit narrower than the other seats- not sure if it's just in my mind or if it's actually narrower, so take of that what you will. Sat in 1A for take-off and landing though, at the right angle you can see straight ahead which is fun.
IMO for a couple, the sweet spot is 2A and 2K. Normal width seat, not too far away from each other, PTV facing you even when stowed (so you can see the map during take-off/landing, and keep the map displayed during the flight without needing it to be deployed). As others have mentioned you can't see the other person in row 1 when seated anyways. Take a few steps over to 2K if you want to chat, it's good for your veins ;) |

It is pity to a certain extent the current F Class seats were designed with the 744 in mind, (the angle). If it is the 77W I am sure CX wouldn't have optted for this design and go for the more conventional straight box design (eg. SQ/JL/TG etc...) |

The actual measurements are the same, but given you are right at the front, you maybe more closed in and not as open compare to the other seats.

Just store the duvet elsewhere, and have an FA hang your coat for you. It'll allow for extra foot space too. I don't entirely dislike the slanted design as it allows for more privacy while not being entirely closed in a la Suites. But it's one of the factors, along with the closet, that doesn't allow for a full-width foot area which IMO matters in F. Oh and if I can get on my soapbox for a moment. I don't want to have to deploy my PTV in F, and I want a full rectangular side table. Keep the TV permanently mounted straight ahead of me and give me a big table to put all my stuff on. In some ways the F seat feels like J... a bit too close to Cirrus J tbh. Triangular side table, triangular bed, deployable PTV... it's clear that this is an older design. I like the width, but it's not enough to compensate for the other drawbacks. It needs a more thorough update than the slight refresh. |
I'm pretty certain the bed leg area is more narrow in 1A/K than the other seats. I made a note of checking this last time I was placed there.
That combined with the wall in front of your face makes me prefer other seats than 1A/K. I would even prefer the single seat in the middle of the cabin. |

Yes the seat is the same, but where you rest your legs when sleeping (ie the buddy seat) is narrower.

I used a non-scientific way before to measure it (ie. the Discovery magazine) and appears to be the same (ie. the buddy seat width and length) as other seats. But do feel the elbow room to be slightly more constricted. Anyway, these seats will be gone soon and all the 77W F Class seats share the same dimension. |
Whether psychological or not, 1A/K felt significantly more cosy than the other rows. It wasn't unbearable but there is certainly a very different feeling of space between 1A/K vs. the rest.

Have flown the Row 1 for the novelty (the curved window allowing you to see more during take off and landing), we opted for row 2 on our upcoming trip. Personally we feel the Row 2 on 744 is the best row among all seats, 777 included. 1A and 2A on 777 are the better seats on 777 otherwise it would be 1K and 2K. We absolutely dont like the middle seats of D. |

How normal is it to have a full cabin on 744? I am traveling Fri and it's completely full.

We travel in the cooler months between Nov and Feb and every single flight we were on, was full to capacity except once the Captain Kirk seat on a 744 was not taken. |

My 4 flights this summer were not full...AUG LAX-HKG-JNB-HKG-SFO. Yes I moved around...row 1 takeoff, row 2 main seat (bed) and one flight 3/4 for some late night dining ;) |
