Probably it was not one of Cathay's very best decissions to bring in many more aircraft (with different engine) so late in their lifespan (when SQ decided to get rid of same).

CX needed some large jets in a hurry, and the 744 is about the only thing they can get their hands on. Generally speaking, if you wanted a 777, you would have to join the queue.

What do you mean crooked? They could've easily got their hands on another 744 SQ were selling if they knew this particular sample was plagued with flaws.

Can't remember in which forum (Scandinavian?) I picked this up a while ago, could have been HKF too. Probably the alternatives had more cycles and SQ participated in straightening things out?

B-HOS left for Moses lake on 12/6. Next two 747s to go within this year would be B-HKF and HUA. :(

Sad news but I wish they would get rid of some of the 330 and 777 with regional J and leave the 747 a bit longer to ply regional routes! :) The so called new regional J seems awfully slow in being introduced across the fleet and from what I heard but not experienced it isn't that great.

I, for one, will miss the 747 (it seems the 747-8 isn't catching on) as more and more airlines are retiring them. They are lovely aircraft -- and the first plane I ever flew on in 1971. I really wish airlines would go with the B747 over the A380. I'm on a 744 between HKG and LHR in a week or so in UD. Looking forward to it!

+1

A 747 still looks elegant after 40 years.

An A380 looks like, umm an inflated condom with wings.

I'm hoping the 747-8 will make it into several airlines longhaul fleet.
