Luggage did not arrive with us

4 of us (me,kids and wife) just flew F rewards from JFK to China via HKG and our luggage did not arrive at the final destination after waiting over an hr at the baggage claim. The problem is our winter jackets are all in the checked bags and it is freezing here. I am going to go buy some jackets for all of us tomorrow and I wonder what the official CX policy on the reimbursement is? Also anyone know an email address for Cathay HKG office that I can send my baggage trace requests to? I already filed a report at the airport but it didn't look like folks working here were very responsive on my requests. I am very unhappy.

Thank you.

Luggage did not arrive with us

Hello. Sorry to hear that. I had the same thing happened to me during my honeymoon this year. Wifey on award j and I was on paid j. The ground staff treated us like nothing at cdg. Can't remember if they were cx or air france staff. All they gave us was a wash bag and a t shirt. It was freezing cold and all try gave us were those. The ground staff gave us some contact numbers to call but bags didn't arrive till two days after. I tried calling their handling agent number and Cathay. Both basically gave me the typical " I am sorry, your bags are enroute to you and all that jazz " no mention of reimbursement. Your best bet is claim it of your travel insurance. I got mine from Amex plat, which is just enough for one top in Paris sadly.

Try the handling agent first and check how much your travel insurance covers you. I don't really trust nor believe airlines would provide sufficient covers for the circumstances like this. Good luck!

Not sure legally they owe you anything, but I'm sure if you complain and you are MPO member they will give you some goodwill gesture in terms of miles or vouchers.

Yeah, best bet is always travel insurance....

I am sorry to hear that.

I was with a group a few years ago. One of us did not get his bag upon arrival in PVG. KA delivered the luggage to our hotel in Suzhou around midnight.

I think you can receive reimbursement or compensation on delayed luggage. However, the airport staff you are dealing with are probably contract staff. If you need help, you can visit CX's lost/delayed baggage site: http://www.cathaypacific.com/cpa/en_...l/claimbaggage, or contact CX's local office.

I am happy to report the issue has been resolved quickly. CX/KA delivered our baggage at 12 noon local time so the delay was only 12 hrs. It was certainly better than what I experienced with UA several years ago when our luggage was never delivered during our 3 weeks vacation in China. But people with short transfer in HKG do need to be aware the greater possibility than usual that your luggage may not arrive with you. In my case our connection was only 10 mins more than the minimum 50 minutes. Yes CX is very good in guiding you through HKG but it looks like your luggage might not have the same priority as yourself. You might want to consider carrying essential stuff with you instead of through checked baggage.

A bit off topic but I have noticed a degraded service in baggage delivery in hkg. The last 2 arrivals I have waited almost an hour for bags to start arriving on the carousel with announcements apologising for it. I used to be able to rely on bags arriving quickly, but these days haven't had great luck.

Damaged luggage yes, but CX compensates for delayed luggages now? That's great news.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4: Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; CPU OS 6_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/536.26 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/6.0 Mobile/10A523 Safari/8536.25)

I guess lesson learn for OP is don't check the clothes that you need immediate after landing....... And assume your luggage will be on time.

Yes, why expect a 5-star airline like CX to do what they are supposed to do, that's just asking too much...

Right. No airline on the planet should be allowed to make a mistake and not get luggage through. Sure thing. Enjoy your 4 hour connections while they audit the load and/or wait for one suitcase.

I do not think the "tight" connection time was the problrm. Things do cock up once awhile I guess.

I was on SIN-HKG-TPE flight last weekand on very tight connection time (50 min) and the SIN-HKG flight arrive 22min late. Hence my connection time was only like less than 30min but my luggage arrived in TPE with the same flight with me.

I don't know how you managed to draw this conclusion, but I was responding to the idea that one should never pack things they need in checked luggage. It's not too hard to expect that luggage will arrive with you at your destination. If an airline is that bad that prompts the idea of one shouldn't put what they needed in checked luggage, then yes, it's time for that airline to seriously re-evaluate their luggage policy.

1. You met the MCT. So it was on CX, but not your problem.

2. Your baggage should have the highest priority giving you travel in F. So 2+2=4, which make the situation looks worse for CX.

They should - at least for the necessary essential items.

As UA's term, they are not compensation, but "goodwill gesture" that "retain" customers.

what a stupid statement to make. What if what you need is too big to go in hand luggage ? sorry to say but sme of your posts are often very rude and condescending

Actually Cathay Boy is correct - no one really should pack their jackets (in the OP's case) or necessities (in others' cases) in checked baggage. In fact, a lot of FTer avoid checking baggage for the purpose of avoiding delayed/lost baggage.

Also - I wonder, what kind of necessities do you think is too big for carry-on baggage?

In OP's case, AFAIK, CX F must have a closet for jackets or big coats...
