Crediting Miles to Alternate Programmes?
 
My mom rarely travels overseas and she has a few thousand united miles and that is the only mileage account she has.
She has a travel coming up on cx between bom-lax on k class economy. She will earn 9901 miles for this travel. Asia miles are no use to her. Is there any ways she can earn united miles for this trip.

No.

If the airlines were part of the same alliance, then yes you can do what you're asking. However CX is part of OW & UA is Star alliance.

9901 sounds like one-way. If she is returning to India she would earn more than 15000mi, which is enough for an S-zone round-trip award. If she only has 9901, she can top it up for 60USD and get an one-way S-zone. Next time, if you wish to get her UA miles, make sure she books on UA or one of its partners.

Thanks for the reply, how can I find the conversion of 9901 asiamiles to BA avios.

If she likes to get Avios points, she should use her BA account number upon booking or present it upon check in.

I just look at the conversion: http://www.britishairways.com/travel...d/public/en_us. It seems that she can only get 25% of her miles in Avios. Perhaps you can also check on other CX partners (mostly OneWorld carriers).

I believe points.com will let you exchange Asia Miles for Mileage Plus, although the rate is crap. You might as well wait for 3 years to see if she has any use for the Asia Miles before trying this.

You get close to 200 UA miles for every 1000 Asia Miles through Points.com . It's one of the best rates (vs ~150 to DL/AA/AC). Of course the end result is still near worthless.

She can credit them to AS (Alaska), which can be redeemed on several Skyteam and Oneworld airlines. I've been using just AS and UA for all my frequent flyer miles in the past few years (flying all sorts of different airlines) and it's worked out well for me.
