To renew early or not to

My current membership year will end at the end of August. I am now sitting at 37.6 sectors and 45k+ miles. I have one short haul coming up next week (which will put me at 40.1 sectors) and a long haul in mid July. I know I will not be able to make Diamond. My question is whether I should ask for an early renewal.

I have already called MPC, they said there is no problem on my request. However, my new membership will end Jul 31. If I don't do it, I will be "wasting" almost 8000 miles and 2.5 sectors. The inbound will be in August, so there will not be a problem.

What will you guys do?

Thanks

i'd remove ur MPC number at the gate of your july flights, then claim missing mileage once u have renewed at end of july.

Wow ... thats a great idea. Can I do this at the lounge or is it better at the gate? Would that affect my chances of Op-up on that particular flight if I do it before the gates?

Yes, it almost certainly will affect your op-up chances if you do it too early. Doing it at the last minute at the gate is the best strategy.

But yeah brilliant idea. CX gives you 6 months to claim missing miles too.

Thanks for the idea. Why didn't I think of it! I am sure there won't be any problem asking them to remove the number in HK, but I wonder if they will do it at MNL. I remember I tried that once in LAX and they said it was too late at the gate.

I had the experience of trying to that in the past. However, the check-in agent told me that FFP can only be added, changed, but not removed (in the check-in system). Another time another check-in agent tried to use 0000000000 instead, but the miles were still posted to my account. All these are pre-system migration experiences, so don't know if things have changed by now.

Hi FTers,

Anyone heard of any success removing the FF number for QF flights?

On a related note, if I am like 1000 miles short of attaining a tier (e.g., silver), will MPC be willing to have an early reset, so that I can earn fully the miles from a LHR-HKG flight (which is like 6000 miles)?

Thanks for any input!;)

Don't think so if it is before the end of your scheduled membership year. If you are 1000mi short for renewal at the end of your membership, though, you should be fine.

Thanks ernest! :)

Just wanna seek you guys' advice:
I just passed Gold tier qualification and will have 32000 miles in my upcoming trip. Does it worth it to make another 28000 mileage run to attain Diamond, or renew early as Gold? Those 28000 miles definitely are sth unplanned yet.
Thx alot!

My situation is slightly different to yours. I've also re-qualified for my Gold for another year (my current membership ends in the end of Dec), and I am definitely going to hit diamond from my up-coming trips. But I don't know if I really wanted to do that, as I am quite happy being a Gold for now. Also I doubt that I am going to fly 120000 miles next year. (And I know that I am going to be quite upset to be bump down to Gold next year). The tricky thing is that my up-coming trips are with AA & QF. I'm worrying that claiming missing miles from the oneworld partners is going to be a hassle.

Hi Kleenlex,

I do understand this. Me too. If I qualify for dia, if next year I am not hitting 120000 there is no dia; but is it true that if I got 59000 I am bumped down to silver not gold as soft landing?

For QF, it can be submitted online. For AA, it takes a while, but will get through as long as you keep the E-TKT and BP.
