Pretty underwelming really. The red jacket and skirt is SO common and average - could be Air Asia, Virgin Atlantic for all I know.
SQ beats CX in uniform sky by miles! |
CX really should redesign the male uniforms.
On my last flight a few days ago, I thought the male ISM wearing the new uniform was a grounds personnel or someone lower ranking. I'm sure others might see them that way as well. |
Just got out of the 713 BKK-HKG flight where I saw the ISM wore a new uniform for a trial. Honestly, I didn't hate it so much when I saw it in the photo albeit in real life it's worse. The material looks cheap and the ISM doesn't look as elegant as she would in the current uniform. Not a good move, IMHO

It's like the early 19th century Chinese Chain boy!!! LOL. Imagines the fabulous FA's based in LHR or indeed, anywhere other than HKG or YVR or TPE putting this on....aaaaaaw poor muffin hahaa

Took a short-haul CX flight, and I seriously thought I was looking at an airport cafeteria worker when it daunt on me it's the new male ISM uniform.
In real life this is bad... real bad..... |
I had a Male ISM wearing the new uniform today. When he was wearing the Jacket, I thought, well this isn't too bad and looks better in the flesh. The only problem is that it looks a little too much like a standard suit, and the tie is not particularly outstanding so he might be mistaken for a pax.
But then he put on his vest for service, and OMG what a difference. The gold material on the back of the vest with flecked CX logos made him look like a croupier in a Macau casino. So the grey material is actually quite nice, but the vest.....bad bad bad. |
For the ladies, the jacket seemed good, though the shirt looked cheap, something more like Wing On in standard rather than CX.

I think the two extremes are so major it made us really disappointed. The "current" set of uniforms are very nice, in fact so nice I would rank them as a top airline uniform easy. The "new" ones....
I even prefer the Thai, Emirates and Malaysian uniforms - at least they have some character that expresses something about their airline/home. The Cathay ladies uniform is just a bit dull - it could be mistaken for a Qantas or BA uniform. I would like to see Cathay show a bit of Chinese culture in the uniforms. If Cathay is meant to be Hong Kong's world airline, why don't the uniforms feel abit more like Hong Kong or Asia? (and I mean the good bits) Here is a great little YouTube video with nothing to do with the uniforms, but has some great pics of the planes throughout the years.... The Video |
[QUOTE=Crocodile;14427095]I can only speak for myself, but when I see the Singapore FAs walk through the airport, they look much more professional and interesting than the Cathay FAs.

(and I mean the good bits) well I would rather see the character in the service than the uniform. As a TG/SQ frequent flyer for 10 years I agree the uniforms looked great but once the service became so average on TG in particular I really didn't care about the uniforms. Actually on my CX flight today the number 2 FA ( I always forget the offical title and don't want to guess as I know I'll be instantly corrected!) asked me what I thought of the new uniform that one of the junior FA's was wearing. I agree its not that different and told her so but also said I didn't really care as long as the uniform was comfortable for the staff and that the service was good. She said the blouses were too short and likely to rise up when closing the overhead lockers :D I didn't see this as a big problem but she obviously read my mind and said "maybe not for the juniors but it is for me after 20 years!" I begged to disagree ;) She then asked me if I had seen the financial results and that the staff were getting a 2 week bonus :) At the end of the flight I said "well hope to see you again" and she said "its quite likely as I've been here so long I have no alternative" :) Through the whole conversation she had a great smile (the service had been great as well) and really this was just wonderful banter and far more important to me than what they wear. I really would enjoy to see her again whatever uniform she was wearing :) |

Is there any update for the new uniforms yet? Hope they realllly change the male FA's jacket design. I like current purple jacket, but the new one looks like disaster...

I believe the new uniforms will be unveiled at the December event. I have heard this from an inside source.
