I wonder if I'll be able to access the Sakura lounge flying Z on AA in November.

I am AA Gold currently but might be Plat before then.

This noob appreciates the discussion.

I was always under the impression that without status, you can only enter the lounge for which the airline has designated for it's business or first class passengers. So, if I am flying CX I can only enter the dedicated CX lounge or the lounge that CX has nominated for that route. It doesn't give me open access to any other alliance lounge such as BA, Qantas, AA or JL. That only comes with obtaining the appropriate alliance status level.

I'm pretty sure that this has been debated and confimed many times in the BA forum. One or two individual experiences may differ from this but I think that the rule is pretty well enforced in general terms.

This isn't anecdotal; it's a documented OW benefit:

Z inventory I believe is Mile SAAver F ticket, so you should have access to the JL F lounge as well as the Sakura (J) lounge, based on COS/COT.

From your link:
Lounge Access by Tier Status
Emerald: When travelling on any of the oneworld member airlines, any customer who has earned Emerald tier status, is welcome (with one guest travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld airline) at any oneworld airlines' pre-flight lounges, including First Class, Business Class and frequent flyer lounges regardless of the class they are travelling in.

Sapphire: When travelling on any oneworld member airline, any customer with Sapphire tier status is welcome (with one guest travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld airline) at any oneworld airlines' pre-flight Business Class and frequent flyer lounges regardless of class of travel.

Lounge Access by Class of Travel
Customers flying First or Business Class have access to the equivalent class of lounge regardless of their frequent flyer status. (First Class passengers may be accompanied by one guest travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld airline)."

The wording is somewhat ambiguous. But the usual interpretation is that the word "ANY" makes an enormous difference. Based on status you can acess ANY OW lounge (unless capacity restricted). Based on COS/COT you can access THE lounge designated by your carrier. Indeed some airlines/dragons interpret the rule loosely at some airports, and hence favourably to non-elite pax, but the official OW policy makes a clear distinction.
I can add that I got friends who were traveling on QF and BA biz, and were denied admission at the CX HKG lounge and sent to the BA/QF lounge. And the admission policy is clearly stated at the entrance of the lounge.

The policy is very different on *A. where you can access any *A louge as long as you hold a biz ticket on any *A airline. However, many airline have designated some lounges to be *A, while their premium lounge is reserved to their own pax (e.g. SQ in SIN, etc...).

I agree that something is documented, but I believe that it is very open to interpretation.
