Uber app is allowing pickups at YYZ. It even ask you to confirm terminal and door.

The app and Airport "pick up" regulations are apples and oranges. There are visible enforcement of the terminal pick up area who used to enforce parking/stopping only.

According to Toronto Star there is/was a deal last year between GTAA and Uber to allow for pickups. Is that no longer current?

I think Uber pickups are allowed. Uber charges a surcharge as per GTAA and Uber agreement. UberX is not available.

Being unaware of the mafia pact between Uber and the airport authority, I was furious to be forced to pay for a premium Uber service from the airport to the city at more than double the Uber X rates. After some research and figuring out what happened, I discovered that you can grab a Uber X car from the airport by taking the monorail from terminal 1 or 3 to the airport value lot or the Alt Hotel....depending on your final destination, this trick can easily save you $25-50 for a very small hassle.

Yeah the Uber situation is obscene, only Black and higher Uber's are permitted by the YYZ airport (like the term there if it doesn't get sensors) and it's at least twice the price of a cab, and I've seen it over three times standard Uber price.

Definitely worth getting out of the airport area first.

Apparently I'm not the only one who came up with this hack - the monorail parking station was packed last night with people waiting for their uber driver pickups

I can imagine the GTAA plotting to start charging people a "convenience fee" for taking the monorail to the parking lot to catch an uber.

I'm surprised the idiots who staff the GTAA are capable of putting on their own clothes each morning, so I don't think they would be able to pull this off.

There are a number of hotels one could taxi to first as well. There are a number of other methods I won't post, GTAA would be better off just removing the stupid restrictions that make it 3 times the price for me to get an Uber from YYZ as to it ...

Long live Uber.
Long live AirBnb :)

When I stay at the Four Points on Airport Road, I just walk to that hotel, either directly from T3 or after taking the train from T1.

Pick up a cab from that hotel.
Or you might be able to flag a cab down on Airport Road.

Any issues getting an Uber at 1:30 in the morning? Headed to the Yorkville neighborhood.

edit: yeah from the airport

allbrosca May 7, 2024 9:40 am

No problem getting one downtown at that time. Likely no problem at the airport either.

Thank you
