The printer bargain is less than you might think it is from Dell's words. A little googling turned up a $350 coupon at many dealers, not including Dell. So it could come out to about $210 US.

Super Larry Jun 7, 2007 4:11 am

Well this is useful information and given the number of times a Dell thread has appeared over the past few years, and the number of replies, I'd say a lot of people appreciate it. However, it puzzles me when I remember how offended some people were that we would dare to discuss Porter Airlines on an AC board and how Randy had to intervene and merge various threads, yet it's OK to talk about something that has absolutely nothing to do with Air Canada or even flying. It seems like there are different rules for different posters.

Hypnotize Jun 7, 2007 8:17 am

Dammit I was looking to purchase the Canon A640 the other day but went with a different (and better, IMO) model instead. Too bad this didn't come out a week ago!!

Well if you whine and cry loud enough someone's bound to hear it.

That is why the Thread Title is beginning with OT. Stands for Off-Topics, but of interest to Canadians, as the deals are from Dell Canada. You'll also find other thread in the AC forum that talks about Hockey, but all those other threads always starts with OT.

Super Larry Jun 8, 2007 4:59 am

KINGSTON 2GB Ultimate SD Card 19$ (79$)

ASUS A632N Personal Digital Assistant & Mobile GPS Navigator 329$ (499$)

Thanks Super Larry, I knew that ;) But - the Porter thread also begins with OT and if you followed it, you'll remember some people were really quite bent out of shape that we would discuss Porter on an AC board, even though the main topic of discussion was the impact on Air Canada.

Also, thanks OP! I actually bought the 20" monitor...it will be quite the upgrade from 15".

At least a topic on Dell has the quality of not igniting a fire...discussions on an airline in a forum dedicated to another airline is always dicey...

Most specialty computer stores sell the same SD card for the same or less.

ALW Jun 8, 2007 4:02 pm

I've been looking around and haven't found anything that cheap, not even online in the US. Any pointers appreciated!

Well, I'm not from Ottawa, but here's a link to a shop that has weekly specials on a whole bunch of computer stuff. This shop is very well regarded in Vancouver. The link is ther latest special.

http://www.ncix.com/promo/promosale....=presummer2007

They currently have the Corsair Hi-speed (133X) 2GB SD card for $25.

Maybe a local Ottawa store will do a price match?

ALW Jun 9, 2007 11:34 am

Thanks for the link.

Actually the Corsair is out of stock and taking orders for $65 (-$5 MIR).

When I clicked a couple of minutes ago they had a slow Kingston card for $18 but I couldn't find shipping cost anywhere (except $10 express shipping) and now the Kingston card is $30 again, plus shipping which I still can't find.

BTW, Dell actually still has the card for $19.99 shipped, it's on a 5-7 day shipping schedule. It's on the Hot Deals pages. Some of the other Deals are there too, though Slingbox Pro (the other one I saw) is $249 not $199.

=aw

Braindrain Jun 9, 2007 4:13 pm

For shipping, you'll have to Check-Out and there are different options. Just go all the way short of the final confirmation.

I didn't realize the Dell deals included shipping...

thanks ALW, just checked and found a Kingston 2GB SD for $19.00 shipped - think it's a lot slower than the Kingston SD Ultimate card they were selling but ordered one anyway as it should be fast enough for camera.

ALW Jun 9, 2007 6:04 pm

Yeah when they don't say I have to assume it's slow. :)

I want one for playing .wmv files (movies) on my PDA and the no-speed-listed 1GB cards I have aren't fast enough. :(

The UPS is a fantastic price (it is made by APC and would usually retail > $400 at least), and the printer is a decent model for that price, too. You can almost afford to buy one, and then toss it when the toner's empty. :D

That sure would be an expensive toner cartridge replacement. :D

The replacement toner itself lists for $85! (albeit that the printer only comes with a starter "half-toner")

YVR Cockroach Jun 14, 2007 8:39 am

Does anyone know what brand/OEM the Dell printer is? I need one so may get one.

Or for those who don't collect AirYards, AirFeet or AirInches, try ebates or fatwallet for 1% back. For those going to ebates, send me PM as there's a referral bonus.

FWIW
"Several of the company’s printers are manufactured by Lexmark and the design and shape of the Dell Laser 1110 suggests this entry-level laser is one of them." (review from web site - computeractive.co.uk)

ALW Jun 14, 2007 9:33 am

I wondered that about the printer too, but it's only 1K pages or 6c/page. Too much for a disposable (though ok if you wnat the printer).

Ack, and I bought it (pretty much as a disposable). Maybe I should cancel. What a decent BW laser printer to buy these days?

Well... you can buy toner refill kits with fuses for < $20, or you can buy a no-name cartridge for < $40 (3500 pages) so it's not really that bad....
