Looking for luggage store in GTA

I'm looking for a luggage store in the greater Toronto area that has a decent selection for reasonable prices. I need to find a carryon luggage that's durable, and 22" x 14" x 9" (the maximum size limits for a carryon). I see plenty of 19" x 14" x 9" cases out there in the local mall, but none so far that has the extra 3 inches!

TIA

Arthur

I go into the "Travel Stop" in Yorkville. A good selection and I have had and liked the Briggs and Riley models personally.

Winners has a good selection of American Tourister and some Delsey stuff. Prices are not bad.

Well actually 55cm is not quite 22", so "full size" will be labeled 21". Try Evex luggage on Doncaster in Thornhill (or on Dundas in Mistysoggy), it's where I bought my first rollaboard years ago when TravelPro was the only maker. They had a good selection and good prices then, I assume they still do. Gold's Luggage on Queen (in the old Bourbon Street Jazz Club) also has a pretty good selection.

The stores that sell and repair luggage (for the airlines) - have done so for ages - are Gold's on Queen Street at Simcoe and Evex, now located on Doncaster (Steeles and Yonge). Excellent prices and quality goods with a very informed staff. There are some bargain stores on Spadina - you generally get what you pay for, even if it looks better it isn't, though there is one store (not Sky) that has soem good negotiating. Still, Evex has the best selection. The Bay and Sears on sale days are good too - but don't expect much advice.

Evex has a good selection and good and fast repair service (in our case).

We've used Evex for both repairs and replacement, and found them to be very good, and fast with repairs, with a good selection of new luggage. Their location in Mississauga was closed a few years ago, but they still have the two locations in TO.

If you are going to ASIA take you luggage in plactic bags and buy over there http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif:

Sears in YYC had a one day sale yesterday. Samsonite at 50% off, plus and extra $20 if spending >$100.

They also had a cheap brand carry-on roller and day bag for $39 (IIRC retail was $79-89). Ran out, and substituted a Samsonite 20" roller (and day bag) retail value $199.

Wow, lots of great suggestions, checked some of the stores out this afternoon, except for Evex which seems to be closed today. The Briggs and Riley carryons are pretty nice stuff, especially their expandable cases. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I snagged the last Samsonite Sidewinder carry-on for half price at the local Sears store, though I'm keeping the tags on in case Evex has something better for a decent price.

So the Mississauga Evex location is closed? I need to bring my Targus Air leather computer case/briefcase in to get a zipper fixed. I have not been able to find anything that comes close to it for practicality and size, so I'd rather fix it than to hunt down a new one. You can squeeze two laptops in this case!!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

So where is a good place in Asia to find excellent quality, even name brand luggage cheaper than here? I have a lot of travel in Asia this year, going to Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia in two weeks. Hence the need for a full sized carryon to squeeze everything into. I just don't want to go through the hassle of lost checked baggage on trips with tight schedules.

It seems that 22" carryons are pretty rare, whereas most are 19 or 20 inches. I guess some people have had problems with 22 inch cases being just a bit too long, despite it fitting the limits of some airlines' policies. Anyone here have any experiences with Star Alliance carriers and carryon size limitations?

In the luggage game "half price" is more like the usual price at most stores. You can check the web and find what the true selling price is if you are getting a name brand. My recollection is that the standard discount at Evex is 40%. The so-called full price is what luggae is marked at when it is not on sale at the department stores and nobody buys it at that price, since something else is on sale. My guess is that the mark-up to the full price is at least four times the cost to the store. When it is on sale the mark-up would be 100%. I have no way to prove this but it would make sense. The one day sales are usually there to encourage shoppers since they are very widely advertised. The best sales are for a lot less than half but then these are probably for undesirable products. One other thing - I bought a very nice set by Skyway - but the carrying handle (for use when the wheels are not out) is turned by 90 degrees from where it should be (the handle should be parallel to the long dimension) - making it impossible to carry for any distance. I never thought to check that out. Since I use the wheels and the long handle most of the time, it is not as big a deal as it could be.

I recently purchased the shorter version, after looking everywhere for the 22" version. The only one I could find was $900.00! The shorter one is not bad. I fits the overhead bin without having to go in sideways. I got one that expands deeper than the 9" which is good. In the end I am happy with the shorter one.
