Question about YYZ
 

I will be flying from Ottawa to YYZ - I believe we are in terminal 3 - just wondering if I can go to the duty free before exiting the airport? Thanks

Air Canada flies YOW>YYZ using terminal 1 at YYZ. WestJet does the same using Terminal 3. Duty free is not available or accessible to domestic travellers. If you fly to the USA from YYZ you can access duty free at terminals 1 or 3 after clearing security and US customs and immigration.

Just to clarify, even if you can physically enter a duty free shop, from what I recall the clerk will ask for a boarding pass that shows you are flying international in order to purchase a duty-free item.

This is the correct answer as the duty free shop is accessible to domestic travellers in T3, they share a concourse.

That was my vague recollection, and applies to many Canadian airports where the international flights gates are not separate/segregated from the domestic ones.

I have a question about YYZ as well. I am flying Westjet (Terminal 3) but my PriorityPass only gets me benefits in Terminal 1. Will security allow me to go to Terminal 1 first for a meal?
After that of course I will have to exit security and go through security at Terminal 3. Just wondering if they allow this.

Is your travel domestic or transborder to USA or international? I think you would need to buy a dummy refundable ticket on AC, check in, then cancel it once you are in the lounge and get a refund. Give yourself plenty of time to take the train and clear security at T3.

It's all domestic. I thought about buying a dummy ticket but surely you can't cancel after you've checked in and have the boarding pass?

Why not? Especially for domestic where you don’t have to pass through US inspection twice. I do it all the time. My meeting just got cancelled. Family emergency. Bad weather forecast. I forgot my meeting documents. My kid is sick at school. Whatever. Make sure your AC ticket is either refundable or still within the 24-hour grace period.

Never once had a problem. I clear security like everyone else. I have a same-day valid boarding pass that I never cancel until I am in the lounge. No one has ever asked. No one has ever cared. Especially domestic. US Customs guys never ask or care either. I just say I switched flights.

Anyway, I tried it (getting into Terminal 1 with a Terminal 3 boarding pass) - no dice. Luckily I was misled by the Priority Pass website and there is indeed a restaurant (Caplansky's Deli) in the Domestic section of Terminal 3 that welcomed me with open arms. Delicious!

Another question: I will be arriving at Terminal 1 on AC from YEG and then connecting on AC to the USA, still from T1. I assume I have to go through (US) security again.
So, if I exit security (to go visit the Lost & Found) then when I go back in via the US section I'll be going through the same security anyway and won't have lost much time or caused extra hassle.
Is this correct?
