On my last three returns I've been gate held anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes. Things went smoothly once off the plane. Having Nexus certainly helps.

I flew EWR-YYZ at 6PM on Saturday and pretty much went through customs in 5 minutes. Luggage took a while to arrive though.

2 hr connection time - BCN - YYZ - SFO
Hi all - flying AC from BCN to YYZ, connecting to SFO on a two hour layover (T1). Starting to get nervous with all the reports. On a Saturday afternoon for what that’s worth. Any thoughts on whether I should try to switch the flight to avoid YYZ? Or if this is doable? I know no one has a crystal ball, thanks in advance.

It seems, somewhat anecdotally, that the problem is not quite as bad now as it was a couple of weeks ago. Which is to say, it seems that delays of several hours have been replaced by delays of up to an hour, often with connecting passengers being released first. So I expect two hours may prove okay.

Is anyone aware if you can access the Nexus line with an expired Nexus card?
ie) Do you need to scan your card with the machines or can you show your card and then use your passport? Reason for asking is my Nexus expired sometime in 2020. I am scheduled for my renewal interview next week (in the US... but that's a conversation for another thread). Due to the pandemic and re-enrolment centre closures, I gather it was "Extended" for 18 months however I believe that period is passed and I'm unsure if that was extended further? |
I picked up some friends at T3 last night after an international flight. They were roughly 1 hour and 45 minutes from touchdown to curbside. However, because they had young kids, they were sent to the front of the line at passport control. They estimated that this saved them at least 30 minutes of waiting in line. There was no significant wait for their baggage. The arrivals pick-up area at T3 was crowded, but nowhere near as bad as it was a T1 when I did a pickup there a couple of weeks ago.

I flew into T3 on AA in mid April with expired card (expired Feb 2022 and I initiated renewal in Aug 2021 - still pending). NEXUS kiosk was a tap vs scan card as I recall. I then always just use my Canadian passport after the NEXUS kiosk at the Canadian border officer station. |

Some people have been saying they are showing an expired card and getting through the security line with no trouble. It is rare for anyone to look at it close enough to see whether it has expired; you do not need to scan it. After that you can go to the passport line to do customs pre-clearance.

NEXUS is extended for use 24 months after your current card's expiration date. This is message is displayed on NEXUS website after you apply for renewal. If your current card expired in May DD, 2020 or later, no issues. If expired earlier in 2020, then not sure. But if me, I'd still try and use it and get to the NEXUS Kiosk.

Will definitely use that line then! |
Just as a data point we arrived into T3 international at 4.15pm today. We were held on the aircraft for 10-15 mins (we were in the first block released, those further back waited longer). The line for the entry machines moved quick and was about another 10 mins (we’re not Nexus eligible), then a 30 min snaking line (very Disney-esque) to see an agent. Thankfully green stickers for both of us, it looked like a reasonable number of people were getting reds and sent for testing. So all in all an hour, could’ve been a lot worse.

At T1 regular arrival (non Nexus), they started (not sure when, between April and May) funneling passengers to CBSA standing desk (no computer or stamp, just a desk with green/red stickers) first to move the line quicker. About 4 agents just look at the receipt and either you go pass directly or move to another queue to wait for actual CBSA kiosk with computer, usually for those with visa or answered yes to screening questions. I'd say 80-90% of passengers move on pretty quick after obtaining receipt (10 min wait)

We are going through Toronto on May 26 from CVG on the way to Vancouver arrive around 6;15 pm.. We have a 1 hour 48 minute layover. There are 6 of us. I am very concerned about what we need to do.
We do not have Nexus. If there are ANY suggestions on what we can do it would be appreciated. There is one flight after ours to Vancouver. |

Last night was another brutal one for T1 International arrivals. Fortunately I booked my return on Porter via YTZ, but my friend was stuck on the tarmac for 2.5 hours waiting to deplane after arriving from the US. Air Canada told passengers onboard that they were all going to miss their connections. Lots of ex-USA passengers connecting via YYZ to Europe. Apparently there was only one CBSA officer in the customs hall reviewing passports and the kiosk printouts. I hope the airlines are putting pressure on GTAA and CBSA to get this sorted. I can't imagine how bad it's going to be at the height of the summer travel season if it's already this bad now and only mid-May....
