Yes, been lots of snow the past weelk and highways closed for avalanche control as well as the regular traffic accidents.

Arriving on a repo cruise? Details might help as a stop in Victoria could mean there's next to no clearance procedures in Vancouver.

If you can get a rental car in town and leave early enough, you can make a lot of headway the first day as you won't be driving with commuter traffic.

Coming down from Seward on a small ship. Out general experience has been the entire ship is cleared by officials and we are shuffled off quickly so the hope is for an early start. Vancouver is our first entry into Canada.

This is another reason Calgary doesn’t really work. A one way rental Is Jaw droppingly expensive.

I still follow Fairmont Lake Louise and a couple other places on Facebook from our trip a couple years ago - I LOVE to see their snow pictures, though it makes me quite envious! We were there in 2018 for the Snow & Ice Festivals (snow in Banff, ice at Lake Louise). I hope you enjoy!! Each time I see the amount of snow at the ski resorts, I'm tempted to book another trip :-)

Should be faster at any rate than a multi-thousand pax ship.

Only way, apparently, you can get a reasonable OW between the two is with a European DL and/or residency in Europe..

Or booking through a European provider - I rented with Canadian Affair a few years ago, between Calgary and Vancouver, no one way fees, and I drove it on my Canadian licence.

They have since, reportedly (somewhat recently), tightened it up. One of the biggest hit have been Australians.
