Connection through YUL

Hello all. I will be traveling to an international destination in June from Orlando FL. I have a stop in YUL with 2-hour layover. Would that be long enough? I have never gone through Canada before and don't know what to expect. I'll be flying on air canada both flights.

Edit: It's actually a 3-hour layover.

UAPremExecflyer Mar 28, 2019 11:25 am

Two hours is plenty if traveling on one ticket/PNR ...

Ok, so basically I will have to pass customs, but I don't have to pick up my bags.

It's just a basic passport check and then you go straight to your departure gate. You'll be trying to find things to do with all of your extra time.

Alright, thanks...any tips for wasting time? Any lounges I should know about?

Who are you flying with and in which cabin?

slothritis Mar 30, 2019 11:00 am

Me myself and I. And premium economy.

I'm pretty sure JC94 is asking which airline you are flying with.

slothritis Mar 30, 2019 11:16 am

Ohhh Hahahah air canada

You can buy MLL access for $25 on AC (when in PY, it’s more from Flex Y). There’s a Intl MLL in YUL, they’re not the best lounges generally, and I’ve only been in the Dom one there but there’s a thread about it on the AC forum if that helps.

FWIW, I always buy MLL Intl lounge access when flying AC PY. At least if I’m going to be there a few hours. However you do need to buy in advance and if you get delayed and don’t have much time I doubt they’ll refund it.

Not sure on other lounge options at YUL. Others may well do though :)

slothritis Mar 30, 2019 5:49 pm

Ok I’ll take a look at the lounge

By the way, what do you mean by "basic passport check"?

Take a look, don't stamp it. Keeps things moving.

have you connected through YUL before?

slothritis Apr 2, 2019 10:41 am

is it worth doing one of those "fast track" programs for this conncection? Like that blacklane pass thing.

airoli Apr 2, 2019 1:25 pm

No. Where you'll be going through it is not available and makes no difference. It's really a 1 minute affair.

Low Roller Apr 2, 2019 1:34 pm

If you have priority pass, there is also the National Bank World Mastercard Lounge in the international section (near the duty free shops).

Unfortunately, I do not have priority pass. I was thinking about getting a pass to the maple leaf lounge but I'm not sure yet.

IME it may be worth it at lunch or later, but the breakfast offerings are pretty slim. Easy for me to say as Lifetime Star Alliance Gold who (for now under current rules) has access on Int'l trips, but I'd be hard pressed to pay more than $25 for a couple of hours. You could do a nice restaurant for that :)

well my layover is actually 4 hours long. It might be worth it. I dunno.

slothritis Apr 3, 2019 2:51 pm

I was wondering, do you use those passport kiosks when going through the customs connections area?

Yes.

LondonElite Apr 4, 2019 11:17 pm

Are you on a single ticket or two?

single

Then you’ll have no problems. Just follow the signs.

Just making sure but single ticket means flying on one airline right?

LondonElite Apr 5, 2019 4:33 am

No, single ticket means you bought only one ticket from Orlando to wherever you are going, not one ticket to Montreal and then a separate ticket to your destination. If you bought two tickets, you don't have a connection and the whole thing becomes a lot more complicated and risky.

Ok ok... I got it. Yes, it's a single ticket.

Probably not. YUL is a very simple airport, with one building, whereas at JFK you have many terminals connected by light rail.

At YUL, coming from the US you'll arrive at gate range 49-89, and your international departure will be from 1-68. You'll have to clear Canada customs formalities but won't have to clear security.

can I use that canborder app when going to my connecting flight in YUL?

I have no idea what that is.

LondonElite Apr 8, 2019 6:47 am

I don't know what (presumably) US-passport holders must do, but you are making this unnecessarily complicated. It will all be pretty clear when you get there, and you have a lot of time.

If you mean the Canada eDeclaration app - yes. Though I’ve not been through a valid terminal since installing it due to IRROPs yet lol. But any kiosks of when YUL uses should accept it and saves hitting buttons on one kiosk.
