YYZ Connection Question - US to US

Hello,

I have an upcoming booking that terminates in YYZ from DFW. Due to a change in plans I'm going to be booking a separate flight back to the US the same day. If I do not have any checked bags will I have to clear immigration in Canada then go back through US border control check? I have the option of a 1.5 hour connection or a 4 hour connection.

If I can skip immigration with no checked backs is 1.5 hour connection for arrival and departure in terminal 3 realistic to make?

Thanks in advance!

You can't skip immigration. There's a high chance CBSA is going to "invite" you for some questioning due to your unusual travel plan, I'd go for the longer connection time just in case.

Why not just book DFW to US and skip YYZ altogether?

At YYZ T3 all international (that includes US as Canada is not part of the US) arrival must pass through CBSA immigration and customs. You then need to clear CATSA security and US CBP immigration checks before getting to the US departure holding area.

Depending on the day of the week and time of day 1.5 might not be enough.

It's also worth noting, that while some terminal configurations in some Canadian airports, do allow you to bypass and go straight back to US customs, its actually a breach of the Canadian customs act to do so (As you must report to a CBSA officer).

That by pass when available and open is staffed by a CBSA officer who check your travel documents and BP.

It is available at YYZ T1 but not T3

+1 especially without checked bags. Save yourself the trouble of a YYZ connection.
