For someone who seems quite competent in customs/immigration law, and that entering another one's country is a privilege not a right, your post is quite surprising. |

NEXUS is definitely the way to go. No need to talk to CBSA while transiting YVR.
Am surprised that no FTs have mentioned the case of Robert Dziekanski. This Polish immigrant was tasered to death at YVR by the RCMP. His issues began when NOBODY in YVR immigration could speak with him in his native language. For those not aware of the issue, I suggest you watch the video. Fair warning, its horrific: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrwmSKJPCXU Also if you declare any goods or above your duty limit, the kiosk will automatically send you to secondary. |
Just came through YVR again yesterday, no problems and nobody was a jerk.
In fact I've never had an unpleasant experience entering Canada, unless you count the CBSA agent deciding to scratch his back in front of me before handing back my passport, or having to queue for 3 hours because the first 2 agents weren't able to find my medical report on their system (but they were all very apologetic). I'm not American or Canadian, not a PR either and I am Asian (N. American definition). I don't doubt they can be jerks sometimes but I suspect most people get through without any trouble. |

here is the other long thread about this exact same subject, I commented in it,
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/trave...-cbsa-yvr.html The weird thing about Canada is that their agents are annoying to both, locals and foreigners....if its not chasing one group for taxes in cigarettes its the other for whatever else. 50 or more trips to Gringoland , 2 to Canada (work) which is my lost and theirs (would love to go to Banff for example but I just cant justify the hassle) |

I enjoy London and there's so much more I want to see and do there. I'm not going to let one person who may or may not be rude/annoying stop me from going. Please come to Banff! It's beautiful and lovely and the mountains will make you forget those random questions you may OR MAY NOT get at the border in YYC. |

They're suppose to be annoying because people lie....lie so so much. I cannot imagine the types of stories and tall tales that are told to these agents.

My former neighbour works immigration at YVR. The guy is genuinely motivated about his job and I can see he wants to help people out, but he's also supremely jaded about his job simply because of the outright lies people tell. I don't have specific stories, but he really did say that the worst part was dealing with the people who were clearly there to scam the system.
from bringing live fish (yes, live fish in bags of water in checked bags), to rhino horns to child pornography. i really don't envy the job and frankly, if people don't like them and find they are being abrasive....whatever...to me, they are doing their jobs well then!! |

I realize you probably meant small tropical fish, but I pictured a salmon. And it was hilarious.

Anybody who complains about Canadian immigration officers need to go to the USA once and see how they treat their visitors.
