I don't mind the walk from the domestic gate to the MLL, to the info desk, make a left turn, walk to the end of the hall, show b/p, enter the hallway at the right, walk straight for a while, make a left past the Hanami restaurant that is always closed, and then making a right to the International MLL.

What I do mind is the absolutely lilliputian security screening checkpoint -- no matter whether one or all three (seriously, three?) lines are open, the screening is equally slow

Additionally, the utter lack of space completely prevents being able to split the security queue between regular travellers and :-: :-: priority :-: :-: pax like us. YUL and YYZ can do it, why can't YVR?

And yet YVR consistently ranks higher than those two airports in rankings. Shows how much credibility airport rankings are

....

Luckily I don't have nexus/GE yet, or else i'd also be adding a rant about how $#@ stupid it is that the airside part of CBP doesn't have any of the machines. Even YUL can do it ....

+1 Real frustrating!

Amen to that.

YVR domestic security sucks, but its transborder security (especially NEXUS) is worse. The NEXUS line is ALWAYS slower than the regular line, and the regular line is already SLOW.

YVR SECURITY = PATHETIC, INEPT, INCOMPETENT, AND INEFFICIENT

Security at YVR domestic on Dec 11 (about 10:00 am) was nearly empty; there were three pax (one ahead, me, one behind).

It was even better in YYC later the same day; about a dozen CATSA and only me in sight.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

As I posted in another thread, the CATSA moron (whose first language was NOT English) insisted all of us in the YVR NEXUS Domestic line remove our shoes. Since this was not necessary at various Nexus TB lanes, we asked why. He said "that's the way we do it". Really.

They are idiots and there is no consistency with CATSA at any major airport I've been through.

Reminder to morons: TWO governments have done background checks on us, have iris scans and fingerprints. Do you find it useful to squeeze my 100ml tube of toothpaste? Really?

<end rant>

Between this comment and your GTAA = pathetic in your signature, I take it you really hate airports? (I don't blame you btw, being home twice a year and living on the road!) :D

I don't like how they've never had priority security lanes at the international-domestic security checkpoint either (at least during my connecting experiences). There are multiple lanes and scanners, but I've only ever seen 1, and maybe 2 lanes open. Glacial is the pace.

And on several occasions, that chokepoint - uh, checkpoint - has been closed when I've deplaned from a HKG/PEK flight forcing connecting passengers to go downstairs and go through the often crowded lines there.

YVR doesn't deserve any of Maradori's :-:s

I only hate some airports - most of them start with the letter "Y" in their IATA code. Others, for example and not shockingly, are LHR, FRA, and VIE (really, I had to go through two different security points to catch my connecting flight)

Yeah, YVR/VAA really need to do something about the NEXUS security lines. So d@mn pathetic and useless.

Sorry to bump an old thread and mods please feel free to move but….
Is there still a priority security screening lane at international departures at YVR? And if so, what are the chances of one pax on a different PNR getting the magic green sticker?

I applied a status pass to some friends’ PNR (4 passengers) for an international trip in a couple of weeks. Now another friend has joined them on the trip but is of course booked on a different pnr. None of them has any status or Nexus or has ever used a lounge so this is a real treat for them. What are the chances AC lets him tag along in the priority check in lane and also gives him a green sticker for the priority security lane? I can give him a lounge pass to join them in the MLL but I know they won’t leave him behind at security and will wait in the normal line with him so it will defeat the whole purpose of the status pass. Will AC let him join his friends at priority check in and also give him a green priority security sticker (if that is even how they still do it)?

Edit: I now see the Int’l MLL at YVR is closed! Well that just throws a wrench in the entire plan. But my question still stands.

Priority check in 100% fine. Priority security it's up to the person working pretty much, but might be okay too since there is 4 priority pax and it's the same flights just different PNR. But I would not expect priority security as technically it's a no. But I've seen them make exceptions like this plenty of times.

Thanks. So basically the only thing I have given them is priority check in. Big deal. They get free bags anyway and the lounge is closed. That sucks.

Technically, they would get priority standby if they needed too

They can still use the Domestic Maple Leaf Lounge. Not as nice as international. They should be given priority access into the domestic area and then cross over to international just before their flight.

Really? That would be great. One of the passengers is actually arriving on a domestic flight a few hours ahead so the rest could meet her in the domestic lounge. I didn’t know one could do that. Thank you!

Normally before COVID the only place you could do that was Calgary (since AC never leased the space set aside for their international lounge).

Since COVID they have been combining everything on the domestic side.
