Multiple Canadian passport? Is it possible?
 

Not sure it is the right place to ask this question, but since there are many Canadian travelling here, I assume someone may be able to answer...sorry if this is a problem...

I have to go to Bangalore in February for the job but, I also need to travel back and forth to the US all of january until departure to India.

Since I have to leave my passport to the India agency to get my visa, I would not be able to go to US. My colleague in Germany tells me that he can get 2 passports, which can be convenient.

To my knowledge, it is not possible to do so in Canada. But if someone can tell me otherwise, it could be helpful.

LOL, I don't think Canada would allow you to have 2 passports valid at once.

You'd better arrange 2 days where you won't be travelling to renew it. The Government offers urgent pickup because people need their passports quickly, so if you are looking to skirt the fast processing fee by them just issuing you a new passport with regular processing time without you turning in your old one, it won't happen.

$110 extra for 24 hour processing. At least it'll be valid for 10 years.

And my advice is pay the extra for additional pages. I did on my recent renewal and it makes the passport a lot more durable as it resists bending.

Nope. 35 pages starting with page 6 being good for visas/stamps.

I need a new one every 11 months. The 10 year thing is really only good for infrequent leisure travellers.

Well, my problem is more that, in order to get the Indian visa, I need to leave my Canadian passport to the Indian Consulat and from there it takes 2 to 3 weeks to get the Indian visa... during those 2 to 3 weeks, I still need to cross the border to go to US... Anyway. I thought it wouldn't be possible...but since this guy told that to my boss, I wanted to validate. Maybe I just got me 2-3 weeks outside of the US...or no travel to India? :)

I think you are missing OPs point. He needs to travel to the US while the Indians will be slowly and laboriously processing his Visa.

Perhaps the better question is: Can the Indian embassy be convinced to expedite the visa?

There were telling us to fill in complaint forms at the downtown YVR office. They said that even with the 48 pager people were still filling them in a year.

I've had 4 Indian visa's in the past 24 months. The last thing I could do was get a rushed visa. I could likely have slowed it down by trying, I think.

About what one would expect from a deeply entrenched bureaucracy: passive aggressive BS.;)

Biggest hassle visas of my life. Dread having to go to their offices.

Does the OP have Nexus? If so, I would just use that to go to the US while my passport was being processed for a visa.

Can you drive across to the US using an enhanced drivers license (Drivers License Plus in Quebec?), then fly from a border airport to where you need to go?

If not - you're in the same boat as I was when I needed an Indian visa. I couldn't forfeit my passport to the Indian Consulate due to travel, so I avoided India.
