If you did buy before 1939, than B!tch away! ;)

i know a guy who is so worried about noise when he buys a house, he puts a device out that records sound levels at various times during a several week period....nothing worse that finding out you live on the garbage truck route or next to a person that drives a harley and leaves for work each morning at 5 am....

I think you get used to it, though. I've lived close to YYZ most of my life and I'm very used to the associated noise including the 3am arrivals which only wake me up when I forget to close the blinds and the light shines directly into my bedroom.

I remember having to sit on the tarmac with doors closed at YVR on a red-eye because our 77W would get there too fast for the curfew. We eventually touched down at 6:05 am.

Westjet's summer schedule has reduced the transcon redeyes for YVR, YYC, and YEG from 2 flights to 1, plus the remaining flight is scheduled to arrive at YYZ after 6:15am. Maybe AC is trying to soak up the night slots and keep WS out of the market.

Traditionally AC has done better on the redeyes than WS as only AC has the early morning transborder departure bank, plus the LHR daytripper.

My reading of the YYZ curfew is that the airport has a limited number of slots allowed in the normal "quiet" periods - AFAIK these are done for a 6 month period. So if some flights are no longer running (some of the Caribbean charter flights), other airlines can take them over. So maybe it is just that with the end of the charter flights, other airlines are picking up the slots at least for the summer.

Aaah, nothing more soothing than the roar of a jet engine on idle approach and landing lights. :)

I don't mind the noise. It's just those 06:30 departures on weekend mornings when I'm trying to sleep in :td:

The arrivals are fine, given the lower EPNL. It's great to have a BBQ on the balcony and watch the planes coming in.

Just sucks the curfew is being extended in the summer of all times when the neighbours will have all their windows open. Not everybody in the ghetto can afford A/C, you see.

Think positive, you can point out your house to your seatmate on approach, I always do

That remark is usually made to people who buy a house at the end of the runway. In our case we're in the east end of Toronto, far from the airport. The problem is that with air traffic the way it is today the routing is often to an approach from the east when there is a west wind. We are not in what is considered a noise-affected area, yet in the early morning it's the major din. There was a curfew in effect that kept traffic at odd hours to a minimum until now according to the OP. Now they've changed the rules. If the noise does get bad 'm going to move to a quiet area on the waterfront between Spadina and Bay.

I was just on AC794, from LAX - YYZ. Scheduled arrival was 5:48am, but we touched down around 5 - 5:05am.

In the past, flying YVR - YYZ red-eyes, I remember them holding us back at the gate in YVR until our estimated arrival time was after 6am...

AC859 landed at 4:48 AM last night and is scheduled for 2:12 AM tonight due to IROPS. Ouch!

Check out the arrival times for a lot of the sun flights. Thomas Cook, for instance, has regularly scheduled arrivals into T3 around 3am and 4am. Sunwing has a lot of flights scheduled in at 1:55am, 1:59am, etc., but they are nearly always delayed, making 3am and 4am regular arrival times at T1 as well.

I live way beyond the 'this is a noisy area' signed parts, and on the 3 occasions we visited our home before purchasing, there were no aircraft in the sky overhead (guess a different wind direction those days!) but the aircraft noise is still pretty loud some nights (much worse on some than others, guess noise carries depending on the amount of cloud / fog etc). I am largely used to it, and sleep with my windows open year round, but I can't say I am thrilled about more flights in the dead of night, just because of those 'noisy' weather nights!

I love the new times!

If only they would take off at 9:30 pm instead of 10:00 pm.....

All times are GMT -6. The time now is 4:03 pm.
