OFF Topic Heading!!!!!
Ok, here I am asking for help on an everyday occurrence. Wait let me re phrase this, it’s an everyday occurrence but not with me, just so I am clear. Yesterday when my family and I were traveling from our small rural Saskatchewan village to the large metropolitan city of Saskatoon (metropolitan as they have hot & cold running water and indoor plumbing) on our narrow single lane highway (called a highway, more like an Ontario country road) when a marked RCMP cruiser coming in the opposite direction pulled a U turn (well more of a three point turn as the road is so narrow) and came after me to say I was speeding. We were shocked, as he said we were doing 129 in a 100 zone!
Got a ticket
. I went on line to look the member up only to learn he is Saskatchewan’s first reserve RCMP member
. He retired after 34 years and now is a reserve member as we are short of cops here so they went into the retirement pool to re-recruit! Anyways it was a standard front facing mounted radar device. It was a flat road, but not perfectly level and we have open fields all over the place and no you cant watch your dog run away for three days otherwise I could of seen him before we got into the car. yes it was a car and not a tractor!
Before you ask, yes I was doing the standard and accepted 110 KM/h, but not 129 KM/H as fuel here is still just under a buck a litter and I had my family with me. First ticket here…so I need help, advice, suggestions, deference counsel, what ever can be shared with me. Thanks

you missed the first option. Ask to see the evidence. You'll quickly see on the radar control unit a switch "TARGET SPEED / PATROL SPEED". Ask how fast he was going. If he's even 1kmph over the limit, he collected the evidence while breaking the law. In the courtroom, ask him if he had a warrent from a judge to be breaking the law to collect evidence, if he didn't ask to have the evidence (and hence the whole case), thrown out.....Originally Posted by HerpaYvr

Depends on the radar unit. Some units only display the target speed when the officer locks in.Originally Posted by CZBB

Yup, I've asked to see the radar unit and it only posted my alleged speed.
Being born in "Speedy Creek" many moons ago, let me offer this advice to you: next time, take your tractor.

You admit you were speeding - the time to contest by how much has come and gone. Pay the ticket, before they add on court fees.Originally Posted by HerpaYvr

My advice might be a bit different if there were points involved, but you didn't say whether that was the case or not.
The radar panel will typically have three displays, from L to R, Target, Lock, Patrol.
Some members lock, some don't. At the time of being caught ask to see the lock speed, as already pointed out, the display will also show the patrol speed when you're speed was locked.
Given you know you were speeding, I would just pay the ticket.
I have seen quite a few different radar units in operation, they don't lie if calibrated. The patrol speed is taken from the patrol vehicle's speedometer.
A tip. Have you ever sped up as soon as you've passed a police car in the opposite direction? Many have rear facing radar as well. With the touch of a button on the remote control, they can switch to rear radar and in away mode as opposed to closing.
