What happens in Redmond, Oregon (and why) ?

Rang the EC Germany at approx 10.00 AM yesterday morning to alter an award booking (ANU - LGW) from early October to late October and spoke to a very helpful man with a US accent. This was unusual as I have only ever spoken to women with a Germanic accent.

Checked the altered booking later on checkmytrip.com to find that it hads been duly altered but that it includes the following note

MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION !
Sunday, January 4, 2004
Location Redmond / Redmond, Oregon USA
perow

Can anyone shed any light on what this might be all about ? Surely at 10.00 AM Euro time no-one would have been awake in Oregon ?? What has Jan 4th next year got to do with anything and what does 'perow' mean ??

Gaza Sep 16, 2003 6:41 am

I have seen strange information like this many times on checkmytrip. I'm not certain, but I think Amadeus is misinterpreting a code used by BA for Award Bookings and producing spurious info.

Fraser Sep 16, 2003 6:50 am

I used www.checkmytrip.com for the first time to see my seating for a J award and also saw the Redmond, OR blurb at the bottom of the travel information.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/confused.gif

However since it was the first time I had used checkmytrip.com I presumed it was normal

I am pretty certain that it was not there before the change of reservation. Most peculiar !

I booked an award ticket in NCW in June & the Redmond comment has been at the bottom of the info on checkmytrip since day 1.

House Sep 16, 2003 8:11 am

This seems to be a strange "feature" of the booking system. Try checking an Award booking with Lufthansa on Checkmytrip, for example and the following text appears in the booking (I kid you not):

BUY A CHRISTMAS TREE...GO ON...YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO

ScottC Sep 16, 2003 9:11 am

OK, so what would RDM mean to BA? I assume they enter it into the system and Checkmytrip thinks it's Redmond,OR...

Now that is absolutely priceless. Absolutely ******* priceless. Perhaps it's just what makes me laugh, but that's made my day!

alexwuk Sep 16, 2003 9:30 am

The Lufthansa Christmas Tree thing is automatically included on any booking made by phone with the UK Call Centre (I first encountered it on my AIRail runs - happy days).

I just saw the Redmond "thing" on an e-ticket booking I just made - my first thought was: Microsoft are taking over the world!

Everyone hunker down in your bunkers/shelters - throw PCs out of the window - stay calm!

Then I remembered that Microsoft are based in Redmond, Washington.

Easy to confuse http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

The Redmond/Bend area is very beautiful. Great golf, gorgeous scenery, friendly people... Also, great beer.

If anyone ever figures out what Perow means please post!! Whenever I do a check my trip it's there and when I asked a BA rep what it meant she had no idea.

Maybe BA uses it in their system to denote a redemption?

I used to work with a computer system at Air Canada that had a command line interface and when you wanted to put together a ticket or fare quote for a given routing you would type XXX/YYY/ZZZ CAD for a fare between those cities in Canadian dollars. Maybe checkmytrip.com interprets the trailing data after a routing as a superflous station stop?

If it's January, bring your skis. Redmond, OR (not Redmond, WA) is the closest airport to Bend and the Mt. Bachelor ski area, some of the best powder in the Pacific Northwest. Also home of the Deschutes Brewery (try the Black Butte Porter). If you enjoy rock climbing in the winter, Smith Rock State Park is mere minutes from the Redmond airport.

How this sort of stuff gets into the BA reservations system is beyond me--on my last booking, there was a rogue segment booked to some place in Iowa, causing mild hysteria at check-in.

BINGO, that MUST be it! Thanks!

While you're in Redmond, Oregon, check out the log-cabin-style tavern on the west side of Highway 97 near the south end of town, which has karaoke on the weekends.

Markonen Sep 24, 2003 7:16 am

RDM/redeem -- a number of miles autoconverted to a date in the checkmytrip view -- per one way?

Swanhunter Sep 24, 2003 7:34 am

Araguaina, Tocantins Brazil is my special message - the airport code is AUX. Anyone care to puzzle that one out?

House Sep 24, 2003 1:32 pm

Something to do with you being an EC Gold member, or having booked through the EC Gold (symbol Au) line?

If an EC Silver member finds Agatti Island, India (AGX) in their booking then that'll be the answer.

YVR Cockroach Sep 24, 2003 9:33 pm

Mine's a rather cryptic "perow". per oneWorld? Per one way? (Hope not!)

I've just seen that in checkmytrip.com on a booking made for my partner yesterday. She's a QF FF, no status. On the QF site, the entry just shows up as "Non-flight activity has been requested for Fri xx.xx.2003." There are two such entries, and the date of the second is so far in the future it looks like one of those "keep this PNR alive until this date" entries.

777Brit Nov 28, 2003 6:49 am

This is an easy one folks - they're PNR retention segments, used for market analysis, to keep the PNR live after date of travel.

Random city codes are commonly used for this.

AUX = Auxilliary segment (also ARAGUAINA, BRAZIL)

Nothing to really worry about....

bealine Nov 30, 2003 1:24 am

....I think, somewhere in the world, we have a joker working within the booking systems network!

The Lufthansa Christmas Tree and....

t'other day at LGW, I was retrieving a passenger's booking to print his itinerary when the entire end of 2003 season Formula One standings appeared on the screen for about 10 seconds before the PNR appeared.

When I printed the itinerary, there were the championship positions again at the top of the PNR!

'Fraid I don't have the foggiest about "perow" though!

When I book using my BA account, I get the comment creditnn, which check my trip translates to Corner Bay / Corner Bay, Alaska USA.

My recent points booking shows this aswell, I think the RDM (redemption) PEROW (Per one way).

At fisrt I thought maybe the agent had put my preferance of "prefers exit row" in comments, but I think it's probably the first thing.

BA481K Feb 29, 2004 3:39 am

"perow" ~~ Could it be that Ross Perot (the only man that makes George Bush look normal) is now a ticketing agent for BA?

All my BA online bookings show Corner Bay, Alaska.........in my stupidity, I just presumed that this was where they processed their web transactions

I am surprised nobody has mentioned this sooner.

Since I discovered checkmytrip.com, around 40 Club Europe bookings in the last year have shown Redmond, Oregon USA in the respective section.

I thought nothing of it.

strange codes on check my trip

Well I had my salutation entered as Mr. and then there was a statement "MAN". I thought how perceptive. It is amazing what personal data they store these days, just for a flight up to Manchester.

I take it that for my recent trip to Colombia, despite having paid for business class on Iberia that the Spanish for please ensure he is kept in economy only and away from other passengers is "MAD" and that the code for seat row 49 in the 340 600 next to the toilets is "BOG".

OK (or CSA), I have finally flipped. Maybe it is the thought of going to Texas for the day?

However, at least you have the nice new 'D' Terminal awaiting you when you arrive.

Plus a massive Customs and Immigration hall which seems the size of the whole of LGW North Terminal !

And whacky biometric ATM type thingies for when you exit the country....they tell you to keep the receipt to prove you left, but don't tell you how long for
