Isn't it time for BA to start again with a clean slate? Build the airline of the future with well architected IT systems, rather than taking an organic sticking plaster approach? I've seen the 'start over' approach work in the finance industry.
Appreciate there are lots of complex interfaces into external systems that BA has no control over, but it seems to me that they can't have control over the basic internal and customer-facing systems. It's these systems that BA's reputation is partly based on. So a real opportunity - but probably would cost BA about a billion to do it properly. T |

This is something that many organisations are doing.... but it isn't a case of you can just build something new and switch from old to new in a single step. It is the combination of the interface complexity and the unpicking of all the sticky tape solutions stuck on top of the other sticky tape solutions that people put in to "save money". In addition ideally put in better processes rather than leaving all of the legacy processes that are in place today.

You could also end up spending a billion, and be left with something no better than what's there now.
I'd wager most of the current back end systems are functional and stable, and it's the new "bells and whistles" functionality that's causing the issues. |

Are they therefore allowed to go into lounges on staff travel (which normally doesn't come with lounge benefits).

I wrote this yesterday morning not expecting this many responses, but I guess it's a sensitive subject!
I'm not seriously considering moving over to BA, but was just curious how it functions. I have yearned for more travel at work - ironically I did a few business trips to HK/Toyko/Delhi over 10 years ago when I was more junior than I am now and loved it. But I have two kids now, so I guess that boat has mostly sailed. Economy to Prague Many many trips to Munich to Amadeus CW out and First back to LAX First both ways to Tokyo I've done much, much more business travel in my new role outside Ba which is when I started collecting points and using Flyertalk. |

2006: JAX-MIA-LHR/-LGW-ATL-JAX, shorthaul AA/DL economy, longhaul Club World - a 'fam' trip as a kind of leader of a handful of agents who hadn't flown BA yet 2007: JAX-JFK-LHR-JFK-JAX, shorthaul B6 economy, longhaul Club World - a trip to tour T5 before it opened, a prize I won 2009: JAX-LGA-JAX, DL economy 2009: JAX-JFK-JAX, B6 economy Then nothing until 2013 when JAX closure was announced, and I had 3 trips to the UK for various interviews in an attempt to stay on. Mostly economy shorthaul (a couple of AA F), and Club longhaul (one BA F). No business travel since I left BA, except one trip to DCA… |

The CallBA pictures are interesting. What kind of call centre these days has fixed phones on the desk?

Its likely fully integrated into whatever contact centre software and softphone they are using, some people including agents, prefer a "traditional" physical phone, particularly if they have lots of windows/apps open.
I do like that they have double monitors; only got 1 small screen in my time. |
I've interviewed for a couple of Head Office roles with BA or IAG over the years. As has been mentioned previously the pay is generally below market average. I guess BA thinks the brand and travel perks will attract and compensate people somewhat. BA generally will not disclose the salary range until during/after the interview process (which seems a crazy policy - it's just wasting their time and the candidate's time if there is a complete mismatch). Based on my last experience (~8 years ago). I would say their salary was maybe ~75% of the market average for the London area (possibly less).

Indeed, and that’s exactly why those at the very top are given cards. It’s limited to BA-owned lounges only though, which are an ever-decreasing species outside of London.

Within Europe - EDI, GLA, ABZ, LIN, FCO, and GVA.

Things might be changing, though, as the CIO is now a BA employee, reporting to Sean Doyle, and the IAG Tech folks report into him. This is a big difference from before, when the CIO reported to IAG and not to the airline.

The title of the Thread is..........
"Does anyone work in Technology at BA?" I thought they had asked "Does anything work in IT in BA?" |

Morning,
I've been working in banking/hedge fund technology for around 15 years. The pay is good, but I'm generally just sat at my desk every single day with very little opportunity for travel unfortunately. I was just curious, what is it like to work in Technology at BA? What are the perks? Do you get to do a lot of business travel?A friend of mine who works for BA in another department says she gets free travel and an automatic gold card. |
