What made you think they were upgrades? Were they chirping about their good fortune in being upgraded?

As someone else said, could they have been late (paying) arrivals?

Does "just before we set off" mean before or after doors closed ?

I have probably been misidentified as an upgrade or a late boarder when I was down the galley talking and being unable to get back to the cabin until boarding had completed.

Isn't it a rarity for cabin crew to get First seats... CW is their limit ?

Ahhh nice perk

I was thinking MF! And thinking that most crew heading to SYD probably end up in jump seats based on the loads this time of year

When me and the missus flew FRA-EZE in Lufty F (the old 2-2 cabin seating which although nice for a couple couldn't have been great for strangers) the cabin was less than half full. All of a sudden just before push back it was 'invaded' by a group of people. I thought nothing of it until I read a thread on FT saying that such a thing was common on Lufty flights due to staff travel. They did seem to be familiar with the cabin crew serving so I suppose it can happen....on Lufty anyway.

Out of interest, does this also apply to MF CSMs? I was in F on an MF-crewed flight recently, and there was a member of CC sitting across from me. She had obviously worked with some of the working crew on an outbound flight, and was returning to LHR but not working the flight. It sounded like she was a CSM, based on their chat.
