QR awards in J booking as F?

any way around this? If you have a longhaul connecting to an A320 connection, the longhaul biz is coded as J, but they call the short connection biz class flight “first” on the website so it triggers a higher avios amount required. Any way to get it to all price as biz since thatMs what it is?

I don't believe there is. Note that with QR, the short haul premium cabin isn't just marketed as being first class like in the US but is actually treated as first class for ground services, so you would get access to the first class lounge before your flight if there is one at the station and be able to check in at F rather than J desks if leaving from a location that has both. Therefore, it's also debatable that 'that's what it is' here.

Much like the Americans calling the domestic "front cabin" First class, the Qataris do the same. So I think all regional routes (within 2/3 hours) have economy and first, whilst the same aircraft/seats for longer segments will be economy and business. There is no business class (per se) on intra the Gulf Routes.

exactly but for award purposes US domestic “first” takes the biz level of miles no? QR awards trigger the higher F level.

It's a "recent" change. When they "lowered" the cabin earnings from F to J, they also lowered the amount of avios for redemptions. QR still awards F points for the F cabin.

The flipside of this is that your F connection gets you into the Al-Safwa lounge / monstrous mausoleum in DOH. I'm looking forward to trying it in a couple of weeks on this basis.

Not just that ; but (usually) a special escort from lounge to aircraft, including a car / dedicated bus transfer if necessary - proper priority boarding

Yes. You'll also get full service / meal on the DOH-MCT leg, rather than the no-service you'd get on the equivalent US airline F.

If the timing works, try to pick your DOH-MCT leg on the right aircraft by the way - they run a mix of 787/350/777/320 aircraft so check seat maps.

Even then... don't be surprised if there is a last minute change from a nice new A350 to an A320

I'm only seeing A319/320 on the day i'm checking. One flight doesn't have an aircraft assigned.

Worth a look, sure.

But hey ..... we’re talking about a very short sector (invariably significantly less than the quoted block time ) and it’s the F ground privileges that make the real difference here.
