Called BAEC again and nothing they can do. I have to check in at the airport.

Checked in at airport this morning.
Agent says seat 1C now taken and therefore accepted a move from 1A to 4A so that we could sit together.
I did say to OH that it wouldn't surprise me if both seats were now unoccupied.

Sure enough, once on board, both 1A/C remained available, although I couldn't be bothered to try to move as the bins were now full.

In future call up when you have made the booking and ask them to move your wife next to you. I don't know if they can still do this after T-72 as I always do it at least a few weeks before.
