Aircraft types operating to Hong Kong, as currently scheduled

In the northern summer 2019 season (up to and including Fri 25 October 2019):-
  • BA31 is operated by a 380
  • BA27 is operated by a 777
Except on Sat 26 October 2019, when:-
  • BA31 is operated by a 777
  • BA27 is operated by a 380
In the northern winter 2019/20 season (from Sun 27 October 2018 to Sat 28 March 2019 inclusive):-
  • BA31 is operated by a 777
  • BA27 is operated by a 380
There are a few exceptions.

BA31 is operated by a 380, and BA27 does not operate, on the following dates:-
  • 23.12.2019 (Mon)
  • 24.12.2019 (Tue)
  • 25.12.2019 (Wed)
  • 26.12.2019 (Thu)
  • 29.12.2019 (Sun)
  • 13.01.2020 (Mon)
  • 24.01.2020 (Fri)
  • 25.01.2020 (Sat)
  • 26.01.2020 (Sun)
  • 27.01.2020 (Mon)
  • 28.01.2020 (Tue)
  • 17.03.2020 (Tue)
From Sun 29 March 2020 (as currently posted), ie the beginning of the northern summer 2020 season:-
  • BA31 is operated by a 380
  • BA27 is operated by a 777
Notes:-
  1. The 777-300ER (77W) is the 777 variant usually operating to HKG.
  2. The aircraft that operates BA31 LHR-HKG on any day then operates the following day's BA32 HKG-LHR, and the aircraft that operates BA27 on any day then operates the following day's BA28.
  3. The northern winter 2019/20 information was last checked on 16 July 2019.
  4. As always, changes are possible. Northern summer 2020 is almost certainly unconfirmed, including at the season boundary at its beginning.

Bugger. I changed from BA32 on to BA28 on 1 January to get back on the A380. This is a TA booking. Not sure I can ask to swap back on to BA32 now, it may to be embarrassing to ask change yet again!

If your argument was accepted last time then surely they are estopped?

That's true, it's more the embarrassment factor of going back to the TA and asking them to request the change again! In hindsight doing nothing to start with would have been a better strategy here

I'm beginning to wonder whether the HKG-LHR direction on this rotation was one that the schedule changers missed. I'm pretty sure I originally went through the entire season in both directions to compile the list, but it's possible that I missed one. (Expectation bias, perhaps?)

1 January was definitely swapped originally as I checked my booking when this thread was first raised. I emailed the TA on 8 August to request the change. It has been swapped back since but in our post-myflights age I have no idea when that happened exactly.

I'm sure some travel agents are better than others, but I wouldn't fancy my chances of explaining the concept of promissory estoppel to your average OTA call centre...

What I meant was whether, when 31 December LHR-HKG was swapped back, the schedule changers missed swapping 1 January HKG-LHR back (until now).

As far as I could see, on every day on which there has been a swap in either direction or other deviation from the normal pattern, the aircraft allocation for HKG-LHR matches the outbound half of the rotation pair - even though in theory there might be no absolute need to do that given that the aircraft fly HKG-LHR almost wingtip-to-wingtip.

Identical situation.
Like, literally.
I may just surrender and accept the 777 now.

augh what a pain!

Was on BA31 on 21st dec, switched to BA27 but I snagged 1A. Just realised they switched the plane back to the 777!

The first two rows on the BA31 are full now although the timing is more convenient as it gives me 3 more hours in HK to do things before my connecting night flight.

Is it worth switching back? Is 1A on the 777 still decent and whats the likelihood of yet another change? Thank you!

I think First is always decent although 2A/K or 3A/K would be my choice

I have now asked the TA to request BA allow a free change on my ticket to go back to the BA32 on 1 January so I am back on the A380. Will let you know whether I am successful.

Any idea when / if the summer 19 season may swap around? When would the timetable changes normally occur as the next season is firmed up ?

From other threads, it looks like schedule change season is in full swing.

I really hope that if BA decides to extend the swap into northern summer 2019, it's done now rather than later on.

Having not been paying attention whilst pricing up earlier, it looks like the swap will be in effect again next Winter.

The 31 is coming up as a 777 next November at the moment.
