Quick question about upgrading with Avios.

Is it better value to book your flight in, say WT and then upgrade your cabin using Avios.

Or book in WT+ in the first place, and use the Avios to bring the price back down to WT levels?

Can you upgrade a WT ticket to F using avios or only up 1 cabin?

Almost always the first one, assuming you can actually upgrade.

You can only upgrade one cabin with avios. Some cheaper economy tickets cannot be upgraded with avios at all.

UuA is one cabin only.

rewards don’t earn any avios or TPs even if you use cash to reduce the avios required.

Interesting. So if you pay for a WT+ ticket, then use Avios later to upgrade to CW. You don't get the WT+ avios and TP for that flight?

It is worth exploring threads on Dual Inventory fares so you can familiarise yourself on how they work and how to identify them

Essentially, DIFs are available in WT+ and are constructed as prevailing WT fares with a fixed supplement. It should also be possible to use Avios to reduce the fare

You do but for the original cabin (WTP in this case).

no, that’s not what I said. Reward tickets do not earn avios or TPs.

Cash tickets which you upgrade with avios earn avios and TPs based on the underlying cash booked cabin, not based on the upgraded cabin.

I think it's worth a little clarity here.

When it comes to Avios/TPs - you get what you paid for in cash.

SO - if you buy a fare and upgrade using cash - you get the Avios/TP for the upgraded cabin
If you buy a fare and upgrade using avios - you get the Avios/TP for the original cabin
If you buy a fare using cash and reduce the price using avios - you get Avios/TP
If you buy a fare using avios and reduce the price using cash - you get nothing
