Avios are BA branded money and they’d be mad to turn down Offers to buy F seats for Avios.
If you’d like to prefer the elites, then let them book early... let the redemptions only open for muggles after a week or two of being offeeed to Gold only.
The AF policy makes their FF scheme less aspirational. I’d say that might not be helping AF

I just used a 241 a couple of weeks ago to treat a good friend to a 1st class flight to London. He had never flown first, or even business class on any airline. He was amazed! - being escorted to your seat, having direct aisle access AND a window seat at the same time, eating whenever you want, free pyjamas, free Johnny Walker Blue and the list goes on. He's trying to come up with ways now that he could treat his wife to the same experience next year for their 25th anniversary. His enthusiasm and appreciation was immensely greater than my first time in First. So, not just for my friend's sake but for anyone who would probably appreciate First more than me, I would hate if First redemptions were limited to GCH and above.

Have enjoyed reading the thread and the various topics but is a good point on the fun theme as with the jokers it would open up F for the GGL members despite the slobs in silver and below trying to nab reward availability. Maybe the original posters comment needs moving to the DYNWIA thread

As someone who was born in Austro-Hungarian empire I can well sympathise with you on that. However, given my pending application for British Passport I would hope my embrace of sarcasm was obvious to most

At the risk of screens being sprayed with Le Grand Batailley 2008, I believe a case could be made for F availability to be pro rata, commensurate with the number of long haul Y trips taken in a TP year.
it would weed out those pesky CAI-HNL elites in flip flops & floral shirts and might re-establish F as something more aspirational and altogether classy; much like those halcyon days PUCCI GALORE often alludes to. 😁

Disagree
I don’t think the “line” needs to be drawn anywhere. If you want to FLY in F BUY in F. End of !!!! As for redemption availablity : it should be based almost solely on availability and points not status. BA could make more seats available for more points for those with certain status - like using a “joker” or however that works, sort of a “double the points” gets you a seat only available to gold and above as a concept but limiting reward availability in premium cabins to those with status is a dumb idea as it will discourage a lot of people flying BA and accumulating points for the “once in while” trip in a premium cabin they normally wouldn’t be able to enjoy......... Status has many benefits and limiting access to F or otherwise seems counterintuitive to the many who accumulate points for this one off trip. By definition Golds and above will statistically have more points than those with no status as they clearly fly much more and flying is still the most efficient and quickest way to get miles !!!!! Ok yes you can get them via a credit card. I get about 250,000 a year using my personal visa and even more using my business credit card that fortunately I get credit for the miles but I’m sure thats not anywhere near the norm for mile collection. Flying would be I would think and so most people with no status just don’t have the miles needed for an F family redemption. Other than flying it takes quite a long time to accumulate enough miles to fly a family in F any distance. So.......don’t restrict the redemption but open up more seats for more miles for those WITH status. This keeps everyone happy. Just my 2 cents
