BA (and airlines) Maps
Something I have always wondered is the seemingly random selection of towns that appear on in-flight map screens.
When I fly transatlantic, for some reason MAIDSTONE and CORK always appear - but not say, LONDON or DUBLIN? Is there a reason for this?
On another flight INVERNESS was highlighted, but no mention of Edinburgh, Glasgow or Aberdeen.
Are these random or is there a method to the displays?

I've often wondered this too. I could only really imagine it was because the software is likely to be written somewhere where the important and known cities are in the UK are not known.

Maidstone played an important role in WW2, but the airfield is long gone. As for Cork, there is an airport there, but the most important place for ATC is Shannon (Ballygirreen), and busiest airfields are Dublin and BIA.

Some pilots (Dave Wallsworth) even program the as a waypoint the location of the Titanic into A380 nav systems.
It always amazes me how far south #Titanic was when it struck an iceberg and sank. Shown here on our navigation display on the way home from Miami last night. #A380 @British_Airways

Both AI and TG leave Singapore, a whole country as well as one of SE Asia’s mist significant cities off their in-flight mapping and, instead, label the next door town of Johor Bahru. Johor is totally insignificant in comparison.
