BA283 LHR - LAX 10:35 Cancelled this morning

FYI this was cancelled early today.

Was booked in F, connecting to SFO (a re-book from original, canceled service to SJC). They have offered me LHR-MIA in F this afternoon, then AA Economy to SFO (6 hour flight). Have little choice but to accept, despite economy on the MIA-SFO leg, as I need to be in SFO tomorrow.

Going to try at airport to see what they can do.

Anyone with access to the relevant information have an idea on the reason for cancellation?

I’m in T5 GF and asked the CS lady for you and there’s no reason on her system but she did advise a lot of aircraft are out of position due to the storms in New York/Boston but couldn’t say for certain that was it. Also a lot of flights transatlantic bound are rammed for the aformention d reasons
.

Good luck and safe travels.

Might be some shuffling of aircraft owing to one of the 380s going tech again in JoBurg, or a 744 has gone tech too

06/01 BA54 JNB-LHR cancelled

or a 744 has gone tech too

Thanks both - seems likely to be a 744 tech: we were scheduled to be on one of those.

Heading to airport now so will see what the desk agents can do: found options via Calgary with BA then Delta, so hopefully can push for one of those to arrive at a more reasonable hour!

are all the AA and BA direct flights to LAX fully booked? I wouldn’t accept what they offered unless I was absolutely desperate to get there ASAP !

How about Virgin either to LAX or SFO or NZ to LAX then something to SFO?

There seems to be virtually nothing to the west coast whatsoever, for days at a time.

AA also has a cancellation - everything is absolutely rammed so you've done well to get on something today to be honest...

There is (currently) 1 x J seat on the UA900 direct service @ 11.35am

It looks busy, just the single UA seat mentioned above:

On a practical note, you would be entitled to downgrade compensation for the MIA-SFO sector - the reason for cancellation is irrelevant for that part of the EC261 regulation.

Based on my own experience, make sure you get the agent to put a note on your PNR that this was an invol re-route - BA may well try and fight it claiming that the reg doesn’t apply because you chose to travel rather than wait a day, and I’d be pretty sure you’ll have to take the MCOL route, but BA’s defence won’t wash if you stack the evidence in your favour.

Thanks all for your responses. No joy at the T3 check in desks, so in GF on the LHR-MIA-SFO routing. Still in economy for the MIA-SFO leg, fingers crossed something opens up.

Definitely going to fight for downgrade comp.

I wouldn't spend much more time in GF... get yourself over to Cathay F!

I'm on the BA283 tomorrow morning and that's now zero'd out (there wasn't too much availability before) and maybe the reason why I've just received an upgrade to First at OLCI.
