Priority Baggage Tags
On my last trip we travelled in J and so had the yellow Priority tags on the cases. The thing is that the cases came of pretty much last at the baggage claim.
What are these Priority tags for? I haven't seen any benefit to them. |
They are for baggage handlers to prioritise them ..... last on the belt :-)
|
They are useless. The few times I had checked baggage I had to wait for ages.

Yellow priority bag tag , i thought it was orange for BA ?
|
it's totally pointless - the only time I have EVER noticed a difference is flying within Asia on MH/CX - other than that they never do anything
I do my own priority handling by flying HBO whenever possible if flying alone...the rest of the time flying with family we're always waiting for the pushchair anyway so any priority handling of checked luggage would be a waste of time anyway |

Yeah orange for J and yellow for F was what i thought. Maybe check in agent had run out of orange J priority bag tags and was using F bag tag. It may of changed thou , as i have not flown LH with BA in quite sometime after i changed to EK.

When flying with MH they tagged the bags in KUL to LHR using first tags instead of business and they did come out first at LHR. BA priority tags are just there to help you identify your bag easier on the belt.

Mrs Y and I flew F to DXB in September, all nicely tagged up (yellow for F). First off the aircraft, flew through immigration, and quick to the baggage belt. Bags began to arrive, but waited... and waited.... but not ours. Found someone from the BA ground crew, pointed out how disappointed I was to be kept waiting and was then led to the section next to the belt where they neatly line up all the priority bags. Only two suitcases were left waiting to be claimed. ahem. A quick "thank you" and we were on the way to our hotel..

It works at certain airports but not most others.
Generally, arriving at HKG & SIN work. HND and NRT definitely work. I have not seen it work elsewhere to be honest. I call them the "vanity tags" and essentially ignore them. |
The only yellow tags that matter on a BA flight are the ones that signify crew bags. As BA use containers for baggage, even on short haul (removes the problem of baggage shifting in flight and changing the center of gravity) the are loaded in any order.

Best example of the priority bag tagging system working within the BA network , is in South Africa when flying with Comair in club no matter what airport it is. All priority bag tagged bags displaying the club tag are always last to be loaded and thus first to be unloaded. Upon arrival bags are quickly taken off the aircraft and taken to the baggage claim by means of their own transportation in the form of a small utility truck. No waiting or idling for the cart to be loaded to capacity with other bags. Always first out and always there before my arrival at baggage claim or just being loaded on the reclaim belt as i arrive.
