Unless they stick me in the middle backwards facing pod, which are of less value. I need to seat with my wife due to having to assist her (recovering from a health problem). Maybe I should just make sure our BA profiles have that we need assistance. I have a spine issue and she has some other issues I won't mention here (almost died), but she's doing better and traveling seems to help her as long as she can lie down and I assist her.

In that case see here under Disability assistance. Tbh a 777/747/A380 CW middle pair (if such a swap happened) would sound more ideal than any two seats on the 787.

I thought I would do an update of current BA 787 grounded:

788
G-ZBJE - Grounded since 07-MAR-2018
789
G-ZBKK - Grounded since 09-JUN-2018

There are a few in (I think) normal maintenance too:
G-ZBJA - Inactive since 06-AUG-2018
G-ZBKD - Inactive since 14-AUG-2018
G-ZBKI - Inactive since 15-AUG-2018

So only 2 properly grounded for a while and 3 that have been out for 1-2 weeks although possibly just scheduled although could be issues?

It seems they are gradually solving some of the issues as more than two were grounded earlier in the year.

So with only 2 frames on long term sick leave, and 3 leased Qatar A330s replacing 787s on 3 ME routes, I wonder why there are the ongoing cancellations on other routes? Surely BA wouldn't stoop so low as to try and wriggle out of EC261 by blaming every technical cancellation on the Rolls Royce issue

Not quite true. 23/28 of the planes flew within the last 24 hours alone. That is 82%. Only 5 haven't flown in that time period.
3 of which are in normal scheduled maintenance and have been on the ground at LHR for 1-2 weeks maximum. The final 2 are grounded with engines issues for months as my previous post suggests. Their situation is much improving.

Long haul schedule adjustments – Boeing 787-9 latest information

Answer Id 6615 Updated 23/08/2018 02.41 PM (UK time)

The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority and we would never operate an aircraft if it was unsafe to do so.

Like other airlines around the world, we continue to carry out detailed precautionary inspections on Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines on some of our Boeing 787-9 aircraft to ensure we meet all the relevant regulatory safety requirements.

To facilitate the additional engine inspections and any associated maintenance we have had to make some minor adjustments to our long haul flight schedules this summer.

We have contacted customers booked to travel on a very small number of flights, to offer them an alternative travel arrangements. They are:
  • BA281 Heathrow to Los Angeles between 1 September and 16 September
  • BA280 Los Angeles to Heathrow between 2 September and 17 September
  • BA139 Heathrow to Mumbai between 1 September and 14 September
  • BA138 Mumbai to Heathrow between 2 September and 15 September
  • Flights from Heathrow to Doha between 1 September and 27 October
  • Flights from Doha to Heathrow between 2 September and 28 October
We continue to work in conjunction with Rolls-Royce to minimise any disruption caused by these extra engine inspections and are sorry for the inconvenience these flight schedule and aircraft changes may bring to some customers.

No other aircraft or engine types within the British Airways fleet are involved in these extra engineering check requirements.

Just wondering why some 789 routes seem not be impacted at all? For example, the KUL flights seem to be unaffected. Is this pure luck or some routes have priority allocations to the available 789 fleet pool?

Sorry sight

View from my hotel window at Heathrow. Three BA 787s with their starboard engines covered up.
