I'm not so sure. (Somewhat) regularly go to their tap room on a Saturday and I highly doubt they have the production space to devote a vat (or more) in order to produce a specialist beer for 38,000 ft.

I'd be interested to see how some of them taste at altitude, though. Same with Wild Beer Co., and both would likely be a huge upgrade on the current offerings, although probably far more expensive for BA. That said, a few Lupuloids in the air and I'm not sure I'd be in a fit state getting off the plane.

Whatever the champagne/sparkling wine may have been, it was pretty good anyway. No reason given as didnt ask why LPGS wasnt available.
From LHR?

I have been served the Bolney even when asked for the LPGS, when I enquired what I had been served a sheepish attendant muttered something about an oversight and went and got me the requested wine. Later I was apologised to by the CSD/CSM or whatever he was for this 'oversight'.

A similar thing happened to a friend who flew a couple of months earlier, so I would not be surprised if this is a slide it in policy and see who notices.

Like it on Cathay and Qatar (among others) where they have a policy of presenting the bottle before pouring. A bit more classy but with only 6/8 seats its a bit more manageable.

Isn't the usual ale on BA Tribute, which is Cornish?

Agreed on the lager though. For a truly local-to-LHR West London connection I'd think Fullers could manage the scale for a special BA beer, and they are still independent.

Just an update, once in the air asked for a glass of the LPGS and still got given a Bolney. I asked what this was after tasting it and rather sheepishly got a oh you are right let me go and change it, well spotted!

It was all very strange and I have to say really did not reflect well on the F cabin crew! It was a WW route so not exactly able to say its a MF issue!

On the plus the cabin was half full and everyone was offered essentially 2 starters so soup or salad and then one of the other more substantial choices from the starter list!

Crew were overall friendly if unaware of how their voices carry when chatting as the cabin was quiet when in the galley!

Tastes vary, but I object if BA crew are starting to embrace the unwelcome US airlines habit of calling 'champagne' (small c intentional) any sparkling wine. At least in pre-Brexit UK, it is still a protected name and for good reason.

A bit overkill, no? Assume you mean the Bolney... maybe not my tipple of choice when in f, but I support the fact that they are trying to do local things...

I don't really enjoy drinking alcohol on board a long haul flight so I pay scant attention to the brands they serve. I certainly don't know enough about Champagne to be able to spot the difference between that and a sparkling wine.

I'll wager Gamma Ray tastes as good as it does at sea level whether you're 38,000 ft above or below it.

Yes I mean the UK sparkling wine, no it's not overkill.

Champagne comes from Champagne, local UK sparkling wine is by no means Champagne and to try and pass it off as so anywhere and especially in F is revolting.

Are they passing it off as Champagne? Was it not just a cabin crew mistake spotted by a connoisseur of the French bubbles?

Normally I only drink champagne flying to the US, not on the way back. Just one of those things I do. So, pretty confident it was LHR. The crew werent being off or anything, just regular good crew.

But , I do very occasionaly also have champagne on way back to London.... not often, but yep, now you mention it , it could have been.

This has happened to me a few times in F, be it with Champagne or wines. They often seem to finish off whatever they have open, rather than pour what has been specifically requested, presumably on the assumption you wouldn't notice. As when ordering a glass of wine in a restaurant, it should really be poured from the bottle in front of you.
