Extra 77W at HKG
On Tuesday night there was an extra BA 77W at HKG parked around gate 15 which seemed to be preparing for a departure around 02:00-04:00 Wednesday. Does anyone know what that additional aircraft was about? It wasn't BA28 or BA32.
I also noticed that there used to be another HKG service, BA25 and BA26, which seems to have ceased ops in Oct 2015. Is there any info around on that?

I am sure LHR-HKG had other numbers many, many years ago although I am not sure of their numbers.

This will be the extra 77W you saw.
I have no idea what caused such a big delay in departure.

I then checked a random day in 2001 and there were only 2 flights, which were the 28 and 32, as is the case today. There were also only 2 CX flights in comparison to 4 / 5 / 6 daily LON-HKG nowadays.
There must be more interesting historical information in there if anyone can be bothered to look through it. HKG is VHHH, btw.

Jumping in here.
Was looking just now at one-way fares from HKG-LHR and it came up with a pop up box saying that approval from the Japanese Government was being waited upon and I could see HKG-NRT-LHR or HKG-HND-LHR flights available to purchase.
Has this something to do with flight number changes or completely irrelevant?

Ah thanks for that. I thought there was a BA21 flight somewhere in the back of my mind!

Many years ago BA flew a 747 from Jo'Burg to Hong Kong so it was possible to see 3 747s at Jo'Burg.

It wasn't that long ago to be honest....just after the handover and just before Kai Tak closed. I have a lot of camcorder footage of holidays from back then as well. Unfortunately it was using an older format which can't be played back on my newer camcorder. Never got around to finding out if it's possible to have it transferred to disc.

Wow fascinating insights. Why did ATC request change of flight numbers as being too similar? To prevent confusion with similar callsigns when both aircraft in ops? Would have thought lots of similar CX, KA etc flight numbers would cause more issues.
