Airport Upgrade Promotions (AUP) tracking and discussion | 2017 thread
This thread is the 2017 continuation thread for Airport Upgrade Promotions (AUP) which allow passengers to pay cash to upgrade their ticket to a better cabin. Usually this is by one cabin, so upgrading a World Traveller ticket to a World Traveller Plus seat. The wiki here gives prices, you may need to look at Flyertalk's main site to see the Wiki.
If the underlying ticket is a revenue ticket you get the new cabin's Tier Points and Avios allocation. Other oneworld travellers have reported getting a higher mileage under their equivalent frequent flyer systems. If the underlying ticket was an Avios ticket then there is no extra TPs or Avios. If the ticket was a revenue ticket but you deployed some Avios to reduce the cost, then you do get the higher TP and Avios award. How to get an AUP They are only available on the day of travel from the airport. You cannot ring up for them or arrange it in advance. It is subject to availability of both seats and facilities at the airport concerned. LHR: If you have lounge access probably the best place to find out in this situation is Galleries Club South lounge, at the customer service desk on the left on entry. (T3 GC equivalent is on the right just past the entrance). It needs a ticket agent, who wear blue name badges, and there is always one on duty there. Sometimes the Flounge / CCR customer service agents are ticketing agents, but that's luck of the draw. For LGW ask the ticket office at the transit / glass end of zone C. For LCY ask at the customer service desk on the left in the main hall. For most practical purposes, you can't get an AUP once landside in LGW or LCY. Otherwise you can ask at check-in, they can find out whether it is available and send you to someone else for the ticketing aspects. In T5 you can also check at Zone E since again there is always a ticketing agent on duty there. For domestic terminals you can also ask at checkin, GLA, EDI and MAN have particular desks for this. For non UK locations, ask at the ticket desk where one exisits, but in many locations there isn't one and you need to ask at the check-in counter. At some locations there is neither a ticket desk nor qualified agents, particularly in Europe, so effectively no AUP is offered at this location. At some locations (YYZ, IAD, JFK) they can be arranged from the lounge. ==== With thanks to remymartin for starting the previous thread. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ng-thread.html |

LHR-EWR: CW to F, LHR, £579, (01/01/2017)
|
LHR-OTP:ET-CW, £230
Which is Bucharest of course. Just about worth it at target £2 per TP (80 up from 20), 1300 or so extra Avios, and tax reclaim on business travel. |
TLV-LHR, CW to F, TLV $550 (1/2017)
TLV-LHR, WTP to CW, TLV $400 (1/2017) TLV-LHR, WT to WTP, TLV $250 (1/2017) I was offered CW to F (at check-in desk) and then inquired about the others and this is what i was told (space available of course). |
ORD (30 December 2016)
at lounge offered ORD-LHR: WT to CW, - 999 USD - declined, but magic beep on boarding - WT to CW |
LHR to CPT 01/01/17
CW to First - £659 |
One snippet I picked up while securing yesterday's AUP was that they are only available until the flight closes. 45 minutes before flight for short-haul, 60 minutes for long-haul. I didn't know that previously, and there was a bit of a flurry when I went to the lounge desk at T-50 or so to ask !
|
DEL-LHR, CW to F, 40000 INR (£482)
This was on a reward booking. Added to wiki |
I'm going to fly SJC to LHR, the plane departs around 8pm.
Would it be possible to go to SFO's BA ticketing desk(I live near this airport) earlier in the day since there is more activity here and try my luck in a same day AUP? |
Check In Upgrade from CW to F?
Hi y'all
I'm off to Washington next week. I'm Gold Exec Club and flying CW having booked a WT+ fare and upgraded with Avios. Any chance I might be eligible for a check-in upgrade with this type of fare structure? Would pay to move into First if there were seats. I'm on the 11am-ish A380. Any ideas of the CW > F at airport upgrade price? Might they just move me up anyway because I'm Gold? |
Yes it's possible. See the AUP thread for prices.

Have a look at this thread
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...17-thread.html To give you an indication of the £££s to pay for upgrade at airport. The airline may need to operationally upgrade for free depending on loads / overbooking etc. On the A380 you're in the mix with 100 other Club World passengers so odds aren't on your side. Gold is not always a good thing - plenty of reports of lower tier / never First passengers getting the upgrade over the highest value members... If you're willing to fork out £5/600 just do it at check in if it's available |
I don't mean to sound harsh but I would try and forget of any upgrade to First just because of your Gold status. Sure, if it is overbooked you might have a small chance however the thread below is more useful although it is not gauranteed there will be any seats to sell as not very flight has them for 'offer' so to speak.
Good luck though! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...17-thread.html ETA: Lots of quick replies already! |
