I was booked on CX690 from SIN to HKG on Saturday in Premium Economy on the A330 but my girlfriend and I were both upgraded to J at the gate. Very nice flight with the LH business product rather than the regional configuration.

CX are clearly restricting Avios availability, I assume to keep their own customers happy. I do this route once a month or more and it's almost always full. |
Phew, I am not the only one finding it very frustrating there is a lack of redemption options on HKG-SIN. Though other routes like TPE, which I redeemed last week, are not affected.

Except I see availability via the BA website so there's no restriction that I can see.

There are Asiamiles redemptions available in economy on some of the flights the OP has posted as unavailable with Avios.

Check this post by neofung which is a check of Avios availability. I see the same results on the BA website as neofung which match my Asiamiles search.

I am sure you are right, however i checked on cx.com for some of the flights the OP posted as having no availability in Y, and they were open for redemption with Asiamiles.

May be trying to logout, clear history and login again to see if there is any difference. |
And I do see F availability on this route, for example 25Feb CX715.

F does exist from time to time on this route (I managed to fly F on a flight I took in November), but it's scheduled extremely rarely and if you book more than a week or two in advance you have to be prepared for an aircraft swap to a plane without F.

On a few occasions I booked PEY and turned out to be an aircraft without PEY . I was either upgraded or issued an upgrade voucher for next time. |

Yes this is the precise problem. There is something weird with mattking2000's account that he can't see availability via BA whereas both myself and neofung can see the availability via BA for the same periods.

It appears it is just my account then, for I see nothing on the same date that you searched: http://i.imgur.com/mOrbkVy.png I see similar availability to your BA search when searching on my CX account: http://i.imgur.com/5uMb6U5.png

As an update, I called the call centre, who saw the same availability as me (no Y/J) after I gave my credentials to them. I've also tried clearing my cache, history, using a different device (work computer vs home vs tablet), and cookies. All still provide me with the same results, so I think it's an account-related thing. This is severely frustrating, as I do not have problems with any other routes as mentioned previously (TPE, KUL, etc.), and it is only the HKG-SIN route that seems to be affected. Thought: Could this be a POS issue? My BA account is registered to Canada, could a kind soul who's also addressed to Canada test out this theory? As an FYI though, I've given up and booked my actual trip in March through Asia miles, so no immediate urgency to me, although I'm still pursuing this out of a pure curiosity/frustration. |
