I believe this advice only applies to Israeli citizens.

Appreciate your point, CWS. Unfortunately the UK angle doesnt apply..

Separately, would appreciate if you can point me to the info re AMM being closed for the rest of the day - that would imply my planning but for now I am seeing planes to/from UK, US and the Middle East landing/departing in real time (on Flightradar). Thanks

At the time, it looked like RJ were stopping services, and the airspace around was closed off. RJ told LHR to expect cancellations, but in the end 2 services did operate today. Tomorrow there is just RJ111 to LHR, and it is due to operate, with some spare seats. There is a later service to IST which seems lightly loaded for some reason (RJ273).

Got it - appreciate it, CWS.

Israel government to charter cruise line (Mano) to Larnaca to bring Israelis home. The service is not for people stranded IN Israel trying to leave.

Meanwhile Ethihad has cancelled my flight and said restarting (maybe) on the 23rd, but this info has not reached BA yet. Despite three cancellation emails from Ethihad and cancellation showing on their web site, BA were in denial. Took a lot of time to convince them it was cancelled.

They want to put me on a flight on the 19th (because its bookable) and they dont believe me that Ethihad have sent me an email and put on there website that Tel Aviv is cancelled till 23 (and may be cancelled again). What they really hinted at is refunding me.

Finally BA said there system has crashed and they cant help me any more tonight!!!

still its through the chat box so its recorded and I have all the evidence on my side.

Do you hold a UK passport? I would imagine a similar ship route will be offered in the next week or two via the Embassy. In the meantime I personally wouldn't waste any more time on getting BA to rebook.

There is a bus from Jerusalem train station that goes to the Jordanian border, and from there you can either get a cab or bus (I think once daily) to Amman. It seems to be the second best option to get out right now if you can't get on a ferry to Cyprus as the Sinai route is too close from Gaza and the Lebanese route is also too dangerous.

British citizens currently in Israel or the Occupied Palestinian Territories are now encourage to register here:

https://www.register.service.csd.fcd...an-territories

This is regardless of whether you wish to leave at the moment, though I understand work is underway to provide a safe corridor. You need to have a UK passport to register, however it can be an expired one - so long as it has 9 characters.

The FCDO advice for Israel, Jerusalem and Palestine is here

Ths Sinai route is from Taba to Sharm El-Sheik, from there one can catch non-stop flights to LGW and MAN. The border crossing from Eilat to Taba is more than 200 km from Gaza and the road from central Israel to the border runs mostly along the Jordanian border.

This is not a safe route and I do not recommend it, kidnappings may happen on that route. Per the BBC, the Chinese embassy has urged its citizens to leave Israel as soon as possible, via land crossings to neighbouring Jordan. Its the safest land option.

With all the disruptions, I asked BA to change my flights (see above) which at one point was LTN (LY) TLV (LY) MAD (BA) LHR. (Originally all on BA).

When the Madrid flight from TLV was cancelled BA eventually moved me to Ethihad and in doing so tried to offer me a refund on the return leg (to get me off their backs).

Today I received a nice email (considering the circumstances) from EL AL telling me to keep all expense receipts for accommodation and related expenses and they will re-imburse me according to legal requirements.

i have not received a similar email from BA.

Finally, in my experience, the last citizens that a government will help is UK ones. The Chinese, Germans, French etc etc will be long gone before UK even starts to think of a plan.

Its pointless to try and do anything through commercial airlines out of Tel Aviv. The airport is closed. Priority is to fly out from Amman or other and then ask for a refund to BA/El Al once youre home.

Tourism Ministry says it will help tourists seeking to leave Israel via special flights
The Tourism Ministry says it will assist tourists currently in Israel to register for specially coordinated departure flights from Israel once they are available.

For this purpose, the Tourism Ministry is opening a digital registration form that is being distributed through various online platforms to incoming tourism organizers, hotels, tour guides and other industry stakeholders. There are about 38,000 tourists currently in Israel, the ministry says.
---
Tourists wishing to register are invited to fill out the form.

I've just received emails regarding cancellation of booked flights up to the middle of February 26. Not sure whether all flights cancelled or just the rotation I typically book (leaving Heathrow early morning then leaving Tel Aviv in the mid-afternoon)

The El Al rebooking policy has not yet been updated, nor has the "TLV situation" policy but I guess something will be published soon
