Transiting through GRU

Hello - if I am coming into GRU on a domestic flight (T1 Azul) and transiting through on an AC flight (T3) will I have to collect my checked bags at GRU and recheck them? Baggage is tagged to YYZ. Thanks.

Your bags checked to YYZ imply that the flights are on one itinerary. Bags should be automatically transferred to your AC flight.

What is the official minimum connecting time at GRU for International to domestic on one ticket?

Arrival on Air Europa MAD-GRU and departing GRU-GIG operated by Gol as a codeshare with UX flight number.

1 checked bag to collect/recheck at GRU.
Economy Class / no status.

Gol have retimed the GRU-GIG flight to depart earlier than originally booked. There is now 1 hour 50 mins between flights. The flight UX are now proposing departs 5 hours later which I'd prefer not to take. Is 1 hour 50 minutes an acceptable connection or is it genuinely now misconnect from a MCT perspective?

The 1 hour 50 min connection is doable, but several factors can impact the final result. One is what gate your flight arrives at in Terminal 3 as it can be a longwalk. Also whether this flight is on time or early and where you are sitting on the plane. Another is how long it takes to get thru passport control. Then how long it takes for your checked luggage to come. Once you clear Customs, there is an area for connecting passengers to recheck their bags before heading to Terminal 2. One could also have to wait to do this. Then you go thru security in Termina 2. So, as long as there are no significant delays in this process, the 1 hr 50 min is doable, but possibly risky.

Thankyou. The problem I have is Air Europa refusing to even let me attempt the connection.. They say it is too short, I say the same as you that it's doable but I cannot find anything to suggest 1hr50 is a legal connection and possible.

Any ideas where I can see what the minimum connection times are? My reason for asking is I simply don't believe the info Air Europa are telling me. Athough I'm happy to be proved wrong, I'd just like to see the info fory own eyes.

I did a bit of searching and did not find anything official on MCT for GRU. I did come across the following site that seems to have all you need to know about MCT. In a nutshell, International to Domestic is an hour and a half, but, for a multitude of reasons, a multitude of exceptions exist, even exceptions to exceptions. So, it seems you will have to live with what Air Europa tells you.

This is from ExpertFlyer… not entirely sure how to interpret the results, but it looks like as UX arrives Terminal 2, then a GOL departure from Terminal 2 has 1hr 35min MCT and a GOL departure from Terminal 3 has a 2hr 30min MCT.

Effective 26 August 2024, individuals who require a visa to enter Brazil based on their nationality (i.e., visa nationals) must obtain an entry visa prior to transiting through the country. This change impacts all visa nationals transiting through Brazil, irrespective of the duration of their transit through the country. These individuals may apply for a visa at a Brazilian consulate abroad. Previously, these individuals could transit through Brazil without obtaining a visa provided they did not leave the airport transit area.

just to be sure, this means I need to get a visa just to change planes in Brazil now right? US passport connecting LATAM to Qatar on same ticket/PNR

Not sure. When I arrived at GRU in Terminal 3 earlier in April on an international flight, the corridor to connect to another international flight was open at the time. This would allow one to stay airside and not need to go down the escalators to Passport control. I would suggest talking to the airline you will use as if a Brazilian visa is required, they should know and would not let you board the flight to Brazil without one. Of course, obtaining a Brazilian visa eliminates any concerns.

I read somewhere about an improvement to the transfer between terminals 2 and 3, is it a golf cart like shuttle? Is there an assisted mobility option other than the bus outside the terminal?

Unfortunately the seasonal direct flights between Rio and NY ended, now the already long 10-hour trip will take another 5 hours…

They operate 2 carts in the airside corridor between Term 2 and 3. Saw one parked, never saw three in operation. Each carries 6 or 8 people. May need to wait a bit for one to show up. Last time they were practically one behind the other.

thanks!

Found some info here, apparently the writer forgot to include where to catch it going from T3 to T2.

Available at the connection between terminals 2 and 3, after the Check in E food court, these small vehicles will operate every day from 5:00 am to 11:00 pm and have capacity for up to five passengers in addition to the driver.
