Promotion overload

I got a reminder this morning about earning a "£50 flight voucher by flying 3 return trips between 28 January and 6 April". But I don't remember getting the original email? Oh, except some people are getting £50 for 4 returns, and some people are getting £100 for 7 (or 8), while some get £75 for 6 (or 5)

And then last week there was "fly one return trip before 29 February and we'll give you either 4,500 bonus destinations miles or a free lounge pass"

So, which one is valid? Or maybe they both are? If I fly six times will I get 4500 miles and a £50 voucher?

What about those of you who got "every time your friends fly bmi before 19th April 2008, they'll earn a bottle of wine for themselves, and an additional one for you too"? Do you get wine too?

And of course, the previous week was "20,000 destinations miles if you spend £250 on your new bmi American Express® Credit Card from MBNA within 90 days". (I am approved, apparently, but still waiting waiting waiting for my card...)

Of course, there was the newbie 9000 miles joining offer, although doesn't apply to me clearly

I'm all for targeted promotions - e.g. doesn't do Tesco any harm - but really, this is v confusing, and there isn't anywhere on the website or my flybmi to serve as some kind of central clearing house to list everything that's on offer to you, or what you have signed up for

V perplexing... Is there a new marketing person at Donny Hall trying to make his/her mark?

I got a reminder on the 4 returns for £50 one earlier, but sadly didn't get the other promotion. I have however had an email to get a bmi Amex, even though I wouldn't earn any miles for it.

Typical that the only promotion I didn't get, is the one I could have used.

There was also the 241 redemption offer to add to your list.

Given that some of the promotions you mention have had several variants for different people, and that other promotions have morphed into something else as time goes by, it certainly has been busy down at promotions-central. Almost worth a sticky just to keep track of them all..... ;)

Ah, but we're a mono-sticky board ;). Still, if someone wanted to compile a thread listing all current promos it could certainly be linked to from our singular sticky...

Thank you so much for offering, Oxon Flyer ;) :D

...but seriously, it shouldn't be *our* job to monitor all the different promotions going on - surely there should be a tab listing it on your "my flybmi" page? Like there is on most other airlines FFP homepages?

I'm quite surprised no-one has whinged yet about different people getting different targeted promos and offers. This kind of thing causes near mutiny on some of the more, um, transatlantic boards, and while I wouldn't expect to see that kind of over-reaction here I would be ticked off if people were getting better promos than I was.

Have I mentioned that I didn't get the bonus miles promotion?:eek::D

You haven't been paying attention then. ;)

IME, out of all of these, I have only been invited for one of them. And that was the "fly a lot, get a little" promotion, which was useless due to the requirement to book on the website.

"Buy a flight, get a free cheese toastie and a cuppa T" has been the most appealing/valuable thing to come my way for a quite a long while.

I would not mind if the promo's actually worked!! Have you tried the Hertz double miles promo? None of my three rentals last month posted correctly, which means a manual imput for somebody. It was resolved by a PM to Joanna and she sent it to admin to manually correct. I cannot be alone with this problem.

Then we get these promos offering a non-transferrable lounge pass (valid for about 2 months) sent to BD*G's, and I know I am not alone here! You cannot even give them away...

Then I get offered £100 for 16 flights (ie £6.25) per flight, not much point if it is all business and claimed on expenses.

PLEASE NOTE, DEAR bmi LURKERS, I REALLY LIKED THE PROMO YOU DID 15 MONTHS AGO WHERE I GOT DOUBLE MILES ON EACH FLIGHT.

Did I shout loudly enough there?

They should really take a leaf out of Starwood's book where the promotions are generally all geared around bonus points, and built in an ascending pattern to encourage additional incremental / discretional volume,
eg

buy 2 get X points
buy another 2 and get another 2X points
buy another 2 and get another 3X points

Well, so far I haven't got any of those upmentioned promos... :(

Completely agree as it incentivises us to spend more and stay / fly more. It has worked well for me at least as I have done more stays than I planned to for the sake of the bonuses. Similarly, I would spend more money with bmi if the opportunity arose to be given a reward of legitimate value. (i.e. not a lounge pass or £0.38)

That is quite possible...

To me an airline promo should either -

Make me buy a ticket I don't need, for miles I do.
Make me choose you on my routing instead of the opposition.

Be it price or mileage promo, it should be simple.

Sell me a Sat/Sun C class ticket for a bargain price on a last minute promo. I don't need it, but at that price for the miles, I'll take one. Your domestic and DUB/BRU cabins are empty most of the time. LX do it most weekends and it's highly successful.

Give me double or triple miles, not this fly X, get Y, especially when Y isn't miles.

Oh, and when you do have a promo, please don't make me jump thru hoops to claim my prize.

OT: Don't give me a perk like GUV's, and then make it difficult to use them or make me feel like a sponger for wanting to; and load a couple of extra meals on flights just in case we do succeed.
