grrr... securecode

Tried to book a ticket last night (last day of sale) and the process hung up repeatedly at the securecode phase. After much battling, I eventually managed to get through it. However, by that stage, it was past midnight and the sale was over. As a result, I got the following message:

I then tried in a new session, but of course the price had gone up from £310 to £525. I am certainly not paying that price for a flight to Chicago in economy in the middle of winter.
I am all for a secure booking process, but not one that uses flaky technology, please.

I've also had problems with securecode can my bmi mastercard. I find it hit and miss. Sometimes it won't process the transaction even though my code is entered correctly and other times it will. I used to always pay my council tax with my bmi mastercard but since I signed up for securecode I simply can't anymore as it keeps giving me an error. They are introducing it for Maestro cards now as well but I have refused to sign up for this because I want to have at least one option to pay with.

Well it could be a problem at end of the bank's information. "You should call your bank and ask the bank if they can direct you with the right information."

To be fair to bmi, it could well not be them: VBV and Securecode rely on the availability of VISA/Mastercard directory servers and the relevant servers at your issuing bank (i.e. MBNA).

Any one of these goes byebyes and it's game over.....not great timeout/error handling though.

I'm not signed up to any of it. As the issuer takes the hit for fraudulent use of my card why add grief to your life? It's for their benefit not yours.

Except that if you want to buy online on the BD site using your bmi mastercard, you have no choice but sign-up.

Whoever it is is secondary. The fact remains that BD lost a sale as a result of this as I will most certainly not buy a ticket at the price they are now asking post-sale.
Surely, BD were not required to implement this as of now, were they? I can still use my card without that securecode malarkey with many other sites.

Not required (at least not yet as I understand it) but any liability for fraud is removed if they do.....

I encountered similar problems trying to book the previous Caribbean sale fares. The system failed to complete the transaction at the verification stage, the on screen advice was to call a help line, which was in fact the Indian call centre. Their response was that the booking had not been made but they were unable to make the booking at the same price.
I subsequently booked on line the next day, this time without the verification process. My additional concern was that despite the failure at the first attempt, provisional authority for the charge had been taken. Although the charge was not made it remained in 'unposted items' on my bmi mastercard account for almost a week.
Makes the already challenging on-line booking process even more difficult..

Slightly OT: But should i be concerned that the cash+taxes element of an award booking is still pending in the 'unposted items' of my online statement? Even though i am due to travel in 24 hours?

The tickets have been issued, and miles deducted.
