Refunds Admin Fee?

I have several non-refundable tickets in E class I'd like to return for refund of taxes and charges, etc. Anyone know what the admin fee is and whether it's levied per ticket, even if returned together on one PNR and for refund to one card?

Also, does it matter if they are returned after scheduled departure, i.e., does no-show change anything?

Finally, how long do they take to process them?

Thanks in advance!

Seems to be a bit of a lottery, but this was my experience: For a no-show on a couple of O-class tickets I got back the tax less £25 per ticket.

For a return O-class trip where the return leg was cancelled due to weather, I got full refund on both legs. ^

I used the online claim form. I didn't get any acknowledgement - the money just appeared on my credit card.

Thanks, small em.

I was hoping they might give me a break on four in one transaction, but probably not. I'll let you know how it goes.

Having checked again, I think the admin charge on the no-shows may only be £15 per ticket. I'm sure I read £25 on the website somewhere, but I can't find it now.

Anyway, what have you got to lose?

Seems wrong to charge an admin fee to refund taxes and charges that do not belong to the airline. If Bmi does not refund these do they remit them to whomever they are due if the flight was flown or do they keep them?

Just heard from BD refunds dept. and the news is: £25 fee per ticket, unless issued before 1st July, in which case it's £10 per ticket.

Makes no difference if several are returned in one transaction, nor if they are returned before or after scheduled departure.

Altaflyer: I agree, but they are entitled to apply an "admin" fee and there's little that can be done about it. I doubt very much any unclaimed taxes for flights not flown go anywhere other than the carriers' coffers - they account to the Revenue for actual passenger numbers on each flight. Just more nickel & diming...

I am not sure that those entitled to these taxes would agree that Bmi should be able to charge 25 pounds for such a "service". Hope someone pushes back on this as it can be seen as a form of blackmail in order to keep the taxes! Such refunds should be a cost of doing business and they should swallow it if a pax requests a refund of the taxes. Alternatively they should have to hand over the taxes to the entities on whose behalf they are collecting these.

Altaflyer - While I agree, what would you propose to do about it?

To where do I send my ticket?

I had booked a EDI-LHR-VCE return for a few weeks time on one of the sales a while back but now can't go.

taxes are worth more than half the total.

Not to get the $$ back but to make a point you could call those parties that are to receive the "taxes" and advise that Bmi intends to keep them when you have not flown. I am sure that if such taxes were Inland Revenue taxes they would be none too pleased to have such monies go to anyone but them and they would not be entitled if you have not taken the flight so could order they be returned to you. Not worth it for the $$ but could set a precedent for others.

Hi Stephen -

Fill in the form on this page and that's it. No need to send in physical tickets, apparently.

Dear Altaflyer,

I take it you have had little or nothing to do with the Kafkaesque dictatorship that is the UK Revenue! :D However, if you wish to take up the cause on everyone's behalf, we'd be right behind you!
