Hi,

Last night my dad flew down on BD65 ( Sched to Dep at 2050 actually left 4.5 hours late at 0120 this morning so he did not get to his hotel before 330am plus he had to wrk this morning.
This was due to computes at LHR being down earlier in the day and then a plane developing a problem.

I was on that flight too - luckily my colleague was on the 18:30 and called me to advise on the delays - I called BD and they advised the 20:50 was now due to land at LHR at 00:15. Put me on waitlist for the full 18:30 and I dashed to EDI - got to EDI at 18:00 and it was CHAOS.

Ticket desk (no queue!) gave me an itinerary print out of my e-ticket to get through security and I checked in in the lounge. 18:30 (due to leave at 21:10 by now) was full but the fantastic staff in the lounge said they were sure I would clear standby as they were expecting pax to offload due to the delays.

18:30 left (full) at 21:30 and I'd managed to snag a standby seat because I'd been forwarned by my colleague and arrived early. So I personally ended up arriving only 30 mins late.

Must re-emphasise, the staff in DC lounge were superb, telling us the truth about the probs (BD computers). They were getting all sorts of abuse off delayed pax who were 'assuming' they could use the lounge as they were delayed - calling of security had to be threatened with one plummy lady who refused to accept she'd only paid £11 for her ticket, had not status, and therefore was not allowed to sit in the lounge drinking free Gin! Staff said they didn't exepct to leave until after midnight. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Staff on flight not as open - advised all pax that delays were due to complete system failure at LHR affecting all airlines. They should not have lied about this.

Very glad not to have ended up on the 20:50

Who do I write to in order to make sure staff in EDI are commended for their professional attitude and hard work ? - not the first time I've encountered such help in EDI.

And you've got mail from me too, albeit probably with similar information http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The ticket desk at EDI is a hidden gem - usually always quiet and always well staffed.
