No, generally with an onward international connection your bags would be checked in for free anyway. As it's onward in business on the same booking, they shouldn't be charging you a fee I would imaging. Asking this on the United board though would probably make more sense than the bmi one as it's nothing really to do with Diamond Club :)

This leg is after a 3 day stopover. I asked here as its a DC award and have noticed many awards in the " report successful redemptions thread" now include an economy segment in the US,due to the F ruling. :) United awards are a seperate issue.

The baggage policy is all United, however ;)

If you're not travelling onwards the same day, I'd fully expect fees then if travelling in Y. Certainly on my last trip to the US I was about to be charged checked bag fees on a Y only flight in the middle of the intinerary. Having status meant I got to skip it though - are you BD*S or BD*G? if so, you'll get some free allowance.

First bag to Mexico is free: http://www.united.com/page/article/0...#mexico_carrib

You may try to reason your way through by showing that you had come from a Business Class fare, and that your onward is in economy because the flight has no C class. But this is still a big 'if' they will let you check in more bags.

Additional bags may be charged unless you have BD*G.

Thanks for the replies.

Decided to divert and have a leisurely LAX-IAH -24hrs IAH-PVR in CO B/F and make use of the lounges and inflight service, as we're in no hurry. The change fee was less than the possible baggage fees, plus we get to see a little of houston.

BMI- Jet flight: baggage allowance?

I am flying EDI-LHR-BOM on the 31st of Dec. the EDI-LHR leg is with bmi, which allows 20 kgs checked in baggge and th LHR-BOM is with Jet which allows 46 kgs (both figures found from the websites). Now, my quesion is-

While checking in my luggage at Edinburgh which allowance should I be getting?

Has anyone travelled this route with bmi-Jet before? What was you experience? Is bmi strict with excess baggage?

I am trvelling on the 31st..looking forward to your replies...

Thanks

If it's all on one ticket, then generally I've found that the highest baggage allowance will be honoured, although you may have to argue your case. This is generally with Star Alliance partners though, I have no real experience with other airline partners. I presume bmi and Jet have an interline agreement though, so you should probably be OK.

BD follow the IATA policy for interlining bags to area B therefore if you are on a through ticket (ie same ticket number for all flights) your allowance will be
20Kg for Y / 30Kg for C / 40kg for F . Only if you have something in writing form the onward carrier clearly stating that your allowance is more than the IATA rules will the onward carriers allowance be used.
If you are on separate tickets then your allowance is 1 @ 20kg to Heathrow.

...and they will not interline bags on separate tickets so you would collect in LHR

mixed classes baggage allowance

I have quick question, hopefully someone will know the answer.
I'm flying to US next month for holidays and booked award flights to Miami with stopover in NY both ways (two one way tickets).... due to complete lack of availability flights in US are in Economy while rest is in Business.

What will my baggage allowance be on US flights considering that
1. outbound - flight is after a stopover, not part of continuous trip but on the same ticket
2. return - Economy is first flight on the ticket and again we have a stopover in NY before continuing trip in Business back to Edi....

I'm flying on the following itinerary:
1 ticket - EDI-LHR-EWR (business class) - stopover - EWR - PBI (economy)
2 ticket - MIA - EWR (economy) - stopover - JFK - FRA - EDI (Business)

best case scenario would be if I could have business class allowance (due to the longest sector on the ticket being in this class) on US internal flights as well.... what are your thoughts?

Tiger_lily Mar 31, 2011 3:20 pm

What does your e-ticket say?

maciek_m Mar 31, 2011 3:31 pm

on CMT it doesn't actually say weight just

mia-ewr (CO)
Fare type: Economy Restricted
Baggage: 2 piece(s) per traveller

jfk-fra and fra-edi (LH)
Fare type: Business
Baggage: 2 piece(s) per traveller

edi-lhr (BD)
Fare type: Premium economy
Baggage: 20 kilogram(s) per traveller

lhr-ewr (CO)
Fare type: Business
Baggage: 2 piece(s) per traveller

ewr-pbi (CO)
Fare type: Economy Restricted
Baggage: 2 piece(s) per traveller

funnily enough - edi-lhr was supposed to be business as well but I suspect there's just economy and premium economy on that flight but still I should have business class allowance (rather than 20kg) right?

Tiger_lily Mar 31, 2011 3:37 pm

EDI-LHR looks wrong to me, it should be consistent all the way through.

maciek_m Apr 1, 2011 1:13 am

I have just seen that on CO economy class still has two bags 23kg each in the allowance !!! So shouldnt be an issue!

Baggage sense check

Mrs. stifle and I are booked on a DUB-LHR at an E fare next week. My reckoning is we have 60kg baggage allowance between us which must be two pieces, neither of which to be over 32kg. Is that right?
