Downgrading

I took a flight last week from BHD - SVG and order Economy Flexible, however I ended up with S class from BHD - LHR.
On my confirmation it stated class basis Y for both legs. Because of S class I ended with 300 miles short and sat at the back.

Has this happened with anyone else? paying for economy flexible and getting Economy?

Do I have the right to get a free upgrade and 300 miles awarded?

Presumably on the description in the membership statement when the miles posted, as this lists the route and the fare bucket it was in.

It did S om BP then on membership in S 900 miles.

When I order the flight it did state Y. I have the flight confirmation to prove it!

Just spoke with bmi Customer Relations about my downgrading and they can't understand it either! They will award my 300 miles, so next time I will take it up with the staff in Belfast if I get a S instead of the Y class.

Why can things be done easy?

Well, it has happened again. I've booked a Y class ticket from BHD to SVG and being offered a seat in economy from BHD to LHR. The flight is tomorrow.

I might be barking completely up the wrong tree. Whose ticket stock is it issued on? The BD ticket class that maps to Premium Economy on SK isn't the same as the one that maps to Flexible Economy on BD and I seem to recall SK Y/S-Classes are ones that often give fewer miles than you expect. Could some variation of this explain what's happening?

Both are Y class purchased through bmi. The last time and this time my BHD LHR was purchased as Economy Flex. Last time I was put in S Class. I took this up with bmi Customer Relations and they changed my class to Y for the issuing of miles.

Should I make a stand at check in or the bmi lounge in BHD tomorrow?

Although I'm still suspicious about the booking code, that's probably a red herring at the moment.

I suspect the more likely explanation is space. There are no seats in Economy left for sale tomorrow. The flight is full. Chances are they can't check you in to the seat you paid for due to this. You may or may not get moved if you ask politely at the airport. There are business seats so they might upgrade you I suppose. Not much point making a big stand though, since the hands of the check in staff might be tied.

I'd suggest firing in a complaint however if things don't work out. When you do, worth pointing out the premium you paid for the ticket if a cheaper seat was available. However, if the Economy Plus price was the only seat price left, then technically all they owe you is a free meal and the right to change your flight - both of which you could probably still get. I'm sure you will get the correct miles eventually.

The ticket was ordered about two months ago. This happened on my previous flight. I'll ask politely to be placed up front (this is the ticket I ordered).

I tried booking a new flight to Stavanger for February, but bmi website says no seats are available. It does look like a fault in their booking procedures.

I'm now sitting in BHD Lounge. Boarding pass was issued in S Class even though Flight confirmaion states Y Class.

I've been told to take it up with Customer Services.

The worse thing is I can't book BHD- SVG on the bmi web site or SK website, backto two tickets again!!

Although you are booking through bmi website it could be an SK fare that is being used. Y is an IATA generic class for Economy however individual airlines sometimes allow Y fares to be seated in a seperate zone (as BD do with flex economy) however that is an in-house procedure for BD only so the international portion may be governning the fare in this case. Someone in the know would need to look at history of your booking and see if the "Y" request was rejected at some stage.

I'm very suspicious this is an SK fare. I also think that SK Y and S ticket mapping might affect the number of miles. I know I've had something like this myself before but I just can't remember the exact ticket mapping.
