U-25 spouse as additional driver?

U-25 spouse as additional driver?
When I used to rent from Hertz, I was always able to add my wife as an additional driver for free and without paperwork, even though she is under 25. It was apparently an automatic benefit.
Does anyone know if Avis offers anything similar? I've spoken to two CSRs and all I have got is that all drivers must be over 25, which I know is not true (you can definitely add younger drivers for a surcharge).

I haven't tested the under 25 additional driver/spouse thing yet. but spouses are automatically able to drive free of charge as long as they are over the age of 25. I will check the under 25 thing shortly as I haven't run into that yet. Under 25 is new, only online as of aug 3. Previously under 25 as not allowed to rent until the rule change aug 3.

Spouses are allowed to drive the rental car regardless of age...no need to add as an additional driver (at least this is what I have been told a few times by Avis reps).

I asked again at the rental counter, and they told me the age didn't matter for a spouse - they are always automatically permitted on the rental.

From the Avis RACAM, the bible of rules and regulations. Spouses over the age of 25 are allowed to drive. If a particular location is allowing that, it is either a privately owned agency (not cendant corp owned) or is not in the US.

all overseas rental agencys with avis rent a car with the exception of NZ,australia are owned and operated by private agencies. Rules change depending on the location and the owner.
