D005297 Beware

I just reserved a car with Avis in Orlando using D005297 and was asked to show proof that I am an Avis employee:mad::mad:

Uh oh.

Were you asked at the counter or at the gate? Wondering if this applies to cars picked up with Avis Preferred.

Also, I guess this means the local scuttlebutt - that this corresponds to some nonexistent (try googling it) "Amateur Sports Assistance Association" - is bogus. Hope they don't clamp down too hard, as I have three rentals under this code next month.

They asked for an AVIS ID?

This code has never previously been reported as being anything to do with Avis employee discounts. Do you think they goofed and meant they wanted your ASAA ID? It's been just recently reported as being asked for ID, but it seemed that the poster meant an ASAA ID. (The regular Avis thread - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/avis/...l#post12027724

Probably didn't need to use that code anyway. The Orlando Convention and Visitors code should have brought up as good or better rate and it's actually completely legit. K199060 http://www.orlandoinfo.com/transport...?partnerid=735

Just curious, did you have to pay full price or did they honor your reservation with this code?

Evan! Jul 7, 2009 5:41 pm

This makes me want NOT to go to the counter for any reason and simply go to my car. However, I was not on the Preferred board a couple of times last week at FLL. I wondered if the code was no longer valid based on the scuttlebutt about it here on FT. It had nothing to do with the code but rather car availability that kept me off the board. The agent had every opportunity to ask me for an id for the code. Nada.

Don't know why some are having problems. I sure hope it doesn't spread. If it does, I will just have to try other codes or switch to other agencies.

Full Price. As I had no proof that I was an Avis employee

Don't know how close you are to the airport, but if you're close enough, I'd rebook this one with either the Florida visitor's code or the Orlando Conventions code and drop the first car off and get a new one. I'm betting that the counter person actually screwed this up, because even if it was flagged to ask for ID, the ID they needed was the ASAA one (not that you have that either) as this code has never been previously associated with Avis employee discounts.

On that thought process, the well known Avis employee code A153790 pulls up information about "Avis Travelers" when you input it at the end of https://www.avis.com/car-rental/profile/go.ac?

Other company AWD's do the same thing. However, codes associated with association or membership groups don't. (Such as Costco, Entertainment book, etc) The code you used acts the same way, pulling an error message rather than info about "Avis Travelers."

Not that any of that helps; mostly just for discussion on whether this has code has become an Avis only code.

I just tried switching from D005297 to K199060 for my upcoming two day rental. The cost wne from $50 CDN to approximately $114 CDN.

I guess K199060 doesn't work in Canada.

Ouch!!! I better get a backup reservation for my upcoming trips to Los Angeles.

So as a general matter, if I have a reservation under the D005297 AWD, they ask for ID and I'm unable to produce it, are the unlikely to let me sub in my corporate AWD (which gives me a rate that's about 60% higher but still nothing close to rack rate)? Or would they stick me with the full price?

Also, to get back to my original question: did this come up at a Premier Service location? I was counting on not having to go to the counter at all, but am now worried that, like Evan, I may end up not being on the preferred board for whatever reason (including possibly that this code has been flagged) and could thereby end up getting screwed.

Depending on how quick-on-your-feet you are, I'd try booking two very similar resv (say, differ the times by 15 mins or so, so that they don't get cancelled as duplicates) and then see what happens, with the idea being you could argue that the D005297 resv was old and you thought you cancelled it and rebooked the other one which is really the one you intended to use...

If you're really concerned book a backup at a different agency too.

Let me add that we've heard the same before, and rumors of its demise have been greatly exaggerated:

I hope this is more of the same...

The only time this term comes up on Google is for this thread.

I had no problem with a rental over last weekend in the Southeast with this coupon. Also rented a month ago in the West. Both times, Preferred service.

No such problem ever ... including July 5 in SFO

I have never been questioned about this ASAA AWD nor have I been asked to present an ID ... including pickup in SFO last Sunday (7/5), returned earlier today at SFO. This code appears to be compatible with my AVIS Chairmans Club Membership.
