Since this thread was started on July 7 I have used D005297 10 times with no problems in the following locations: FLL, SEA, and BOS. Since the beginning of 2009 I have used it 23 times with no problems which included locations DEN and LAX (as well, of course, as the other three I noted).

There is no reason to "beware." It's still one of the best, if not the best discount codes.

I used this code successfully last week in the Boston area (off-airport). I didn't know if it would still work but I didn't have any problems.

I just used it today without any issue. At an off-airport location where I had to speak to a counter agent, no less.

You won't get "credit" towards Avis First. It's an American Airlines convention code. I just got off phone w supervisor who says many discount codes will no longer be "qualified" rentals.

I can confirm. I have not earned any qualifying rentals for Avis First this entire year. I don't care. The savings are just TOO good to care about some practically worthless (to me) free weekend rental days. With the money I saved I don't mind just being preferred. Screw the Avis First program! It's for executives who don't mind pissing away their company's money on overpriced rentals.

I'll end up w First again, but only because of some rentals that this code doesn't work with. The savings are too much to ignore.

I agree 100%. The savings are so good I do not even care that I will not requalify for Avis First this year. It doesn't do anything for you anyway. In the past 2 years I have seen absolutely zero benefits from the FIRST program. I will stick with the regular Preferred and use the money I save for something else.

I tried to use this code in Ithaca, NY on the 29th Oct. but the rental counter did not have an Avis Preferred folder waiting for me. I was forced to stand in line, and the agent who handled my reservation informed me that this code was invalid because Avis had advised them that it was fraudulent and being used by anyone who had information via blogs....
He said the only rate I would qualify for at the time would be a AAA rate which was just as expensive as no code at all.

Bummer. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted....

Perhaps the good times are over. I dropped off a rental yesterday and my receipt is fine with D005297. Perhaps I will get a different story this Friday when I pick up another rental that has this code in the reservation.

We'll see. Such a shame for Avis. I will go with cheaper rental agencies even ones that have no express counter or elite program. Times are tough for Avis and for me. However, they will suffer more than me... maybe not in the grand scheme but for my business they will indeed lose it.

I just tried it on a dummy booking for YYZ and it works still. I find it interesting that they claim they're being ripped off when they still get over $50/day in revenue with this code. Poor, poor Avis...

Code is now kicked back as bad when you go to make reservation. I am wondering if they are going to kill all reservations made for all ready. Can people continue to post that have reservations and their results. I am going to Florida in April and have reservation with this code.
