One time asked for a smaller car, was told the one I was assigned "isn't that big" :o Only got an upgrade about 3/18 times. Complaints to the CHM desk elicit an apology and a handful of combinable $25 off coupons each time. So I'm generally making money renting there. But they don't do anything to fix it.

Might I suggest the following reply to them next time...

[*]When you fly into a major US or Canadian airport, an Avis representative will meet you at that location and escort you directly to your waiting car.

How does this work? Do they meet you at the gate, or at baggage claim or where?

it depends by location. Most airports do not allow people to meet at the gate. so locations will do one of two things...

"eye catch" where they stand out at the curb awaiting your arrival, sometimes with a sign.

"wait til you identify yourself to the bus driver and then set everything up there."

some locaitons dependent upon local regulations (airport rules) will deliver a car curbside if you call and ask for it.

Having to get on the bus defeats one of the most important benefits.

gleff Jan 29, 2007 6:57 am

Oh, I don't know.

You never have to get on the bus for the return.

And in my experience if you're at an airport where the bus has to make several stops, as soon as you identify yourself and the driver sees that you're CHM that's the end of the stops... straight to your car.

Now, waiting for the bus at some locations can be a hassle...

not really. most customers said if they had to choose between the two, they would rather it be on the drop off. Most CHM also are familiar with the airports they are flying into and they know how to get around. I knew of one guy who would fly in, jump on the bus, go to his meeting, then drive back to the airport, pick up one of us, drive down to the terminal, pick up his bags from oversize and unclaimed bags location, then drop one of us off and then off.

Yet another never traveled with bags, only carry ons.

Yet another always had the bags delivered through various services directly to his airport.

You get the picture. But coming back....its much easier to get dropped off with all your bags curbside.

I observe the same problem with Avis. They gladly give you the $25 coupons but don't fix the problem. In my mind, it means an employee morale problem caused by some bigger management issue.

Presiden't Club Upgrade

As a PC member, I know that I am supposed to get a two car upgrade from whatever car I book (being an intermediate or above). Is the two car upgrade subject to availability only? Or is it an Avis rule that I am entitled to it?

The following companies at specific locations also get the same benefit(at specific locations, so check at EACH location you go to).

Boeing
Lockheed Martin
Abbot Labs
GM

The bigger the company, the greater likelyhood of negotiated gas.

GM used to have it everywhere, but no longer seems to any where. Also, GM's rate used to be unlimited miles everywhere, but now in LA it is only 125 miles per day.

Executive (theorized-invitation only, no way to buy into it)

Seems like a possibility, but I do hope that if they do it, it should be based on rental days, and/or distinct rentals. Last year I did over 200 rental days with only about 25-30 rentals.

I do know alot of CHM accounts have negotiated gas rates, so they actually only pay real world gas prices insted of inflated prices. If any CHM member has an CHM car contract, check the gas price and see if its less than 3 dollars a gallon. If it is..its better to drive it in "as is" as usually CHM's time is worth more than a couple of bucks.

And here I am, trying to be good little CHM and filling up my cars :(

(Then again, I wouldn't put it past SNA to charge me every time:rolleyes: )

Which reminds me... I have to adjust a rental where they charged me for 4 days instead of the 3 days I actually had it. :td:

OK now I am confused by my status. I have been a "Preferred" member for 10 years and I thought that actually meant something. But I have come to learn it really does not mean anything as far as status goes. Here I have been directing all of my business for years to Avis (as much as I really want to rent from Hertz since they have better cars). The occasional upgrade and kind Preferred service from Avis has kept me fooled. But someone on here recently set me straight that I really do not have any status. The trouble is when I use various AWD’s the website says Preferred benefits would not apply which was not a big deal except they would ask for my credit card each time when it should be automatic. I rented a few times from my local Avis and they said Preferred benefits do not apply because they are not an airport location so I should not worry about it not showing up in my rental history. Other than the fact I really did not notice a difference in service I am quite ill by the fact I have not been given credit nor any recognition for all the rentals. I think it may be time to go with my instinct and rent from Hertz – at least I am a “Gold” member with them.

You're "Preferred," which means your name's on the scoreboard when you arrive at a rental location and you don't have to visit the counter, but "Preferred" can be attained by anybody for the asking. There is no elite aspect to it.

"Preferred Select," a recently expired program, was awarded in return for a certain volume of rentals. It was supposed to be a semi-elite tier, but in practice I was PS for years and rarely saw any practical benefits. Occasionally there'd be a WSJ on my dash or an unexpected upgrade, but on an extremely erratic basis.

"Preferred Select" has now been replaced by "AvisFirst," which I apparently don't have enough recent rentals to qualify for.

I've been Hertz #1 Gold for years and years also, no matter how many cars I rent, and having been kicked off the "Preferred Select" podium by Avis I think I'm migrating to Hertz full time.
